Thanks to the Vespanest Aachen team for the nice rideout last Saturday. We are hoping to see more of these events in the future.
Day 3 and 4 led our team from Bordeaux to the surfing paradise Hossegor at the Atlantic coast in France. A nice change for the team with outstanding weather.
From here the team set their way to Spain. A scenic drive across the Pyrenees and the first 1600km seem to come to an end.
After leaving the Pyrenees behind they headed straight down to Zaragosa.
2 days earlier than expected our road trip heroes arrived at the Circuit ” Internacional de Zuera”. Now let’s hope that the organizers will come as well ;-)
We wish our team good luck at the 24h race and hope the trip home will be as good as this one.
Saturday was finally there and our Classic Day could start. Despite the ugly weather there will still many scooterists coming to see us.
The spare part market, 10% discount in our shop and our test rig were entertainment enough to attract around 200 people.
The first bargains were already made half an hour before the official start of our Classic Day. Drinks and food were all offered for just 1€. It was really nice.
Many well know faces from the local Vespa and Lambretta scene were there as well.
We were really delighted to have you there and hope to see you on our next Event as well.
The European Scooter Challenge (ESC) is just about to start. New engines and new scooters will be seen across the race tracks in Germany, France, Austria and Hungary.
We just had a typical K1 engine on our test rig recently which we tested for its performance and functioning.
According to the ESC rules, the stroke is limited to 51mm. Therefore, a bgm crankshaft with 51mm stroke and 105mm rod is used.
The engine is running on a Polini Evo cylinder with 2 flaps 0.35mm carbon material converted Polini membrane and a Strohspeed intake socket. A 33 Keihin carburetor is injecting the 2stroke petrol. In order to keep the crankcase clean, the air is sucked through a Marchald air filter. The outstanding air flow rate of Marchald filters and the resulting low power dissipation make this road-proven filter very interesting for racing engines.
A Vespatronic ignition set at 24°-16° BTDC makes it smooth.
The K1 engine is fitted with a Franz exhaust. Good torque values and moderate revs make this exhaust interesting for the round circuits.
The gerated power is currently supported by a XL2 clutch in combination with a DRT auxiliary shaft. More on this later. Now let’s discuss the test rig curve:
All in all it is a typical Franz engine. Frequency range starts between 5500 and 6000 rev/min, peak at 9000 rev/min.
11hp at 6000rev/min uphill makes this setup really nice to drive.
With more than 20hp from 7300 to 9700 rev/min it is possible to drive within the power band due to the DRT auxiliary shaft.
Now come the crucial point, the clutch is not the best choice for this power range. Nearly 20NM are showing us the limits of a XL2 clutch. So we have to reopen the casings and insert a Hartz4 clutch.
Maybe this will change something regarding power and torque.
Even if a non-slip clutch does not increase any further, then at least the wear out is halted. A slipping clutch won’t last many laps on the racing track. Even on the road this circumstance can lead to consequential damages.
Maybe we will find enough time to make a Portmap of the cylinder. Let’s see.
Last Saturday the Niederrunners SC in Moers organised their 2nd Vespa and Lambretta Customshow. Venue was again the Bollwerk 107 in close by Moers central station.
Good weather and great food and drinks made this event fantastic. A jumping castle for the kids and lots of things to discover attracted also many young families. Lots of things to see for our small guest, for example one of the exhibited scoters was a “Sponge Bob” memory scoot which brought a smile on the kids’ faces.
Many visitors came also with their own scooter and one was able to count around 120 kickstart scooters.
We are looking forward to the 3rd show next year and want to thank the SC in Moers for a great day.
A small gallery of Saturdays’ winners:
Best Smallframe
Best Largeframe
Best Oldie
This Saturday the 2nd Classic Customshow in Moers, Germany will take place again hosted by Niederrunners SC. Great show and good party in the evening.
There will be plenty of food from the barbie and drinks. There will be a bouncy castle for the small ones and a test rig for the big ones :-)
DJ Champ and Dr. No will perform on the nighter from 8pm onwards. Be there or be square.
Since 2009 scooterist from Aachen can rely on an annual rideout. Back in the 1990s Aachen was hosting big scooter festivals but since then it declined and these meetings disappeared from the region. In 2009 some local scooterist took the initiative and started to promote a season opening rideout through the help of flyer, the internet and word of mouth of course.
To cut a long story the tour started at the German/Dutch border on the 23rd of May 2009. Around 50 scooterist drove the Mergellandroute in the Netherlands. This route is a really picturesque route through the southern part of the Dutch state Limburg with around 80 kilometres distance.
A half-time stop was done at the beautiful city of Maastricht. From there the route led back to Aachen. Germany. The penny had dropped and this event became really popular among the local scooter scene.
In 2010 the response was already much bigger. This time the tour was a 3 country tour through Belgium, Holland and Germany with a distance of around 90 km. Aachen’s Kickstart Rideout became really popular and the message was spread across the scooter world.
In 2011 the popularity was so massive that there were 267 scooterists at the season opening in Aachen.
This time we drove the “Route des Verger” (apple tree route) in Belgium. A beautiful route through the East Belgian cantons with about 110 km route through old villages and winding country roads. A final barbecue was organized as well in order to have a full day programme and people could enjoy some nice food, drinks and smalltalk.
This year Aachen’s Kickstart Rideout takes place for the fourth time with a route of 80 km. A barbecue and a subsequent Nighter are also on the program. Let’s hope it will be as successful as in the years before. So guys, be there or be square. See you on Saturday.
20 years SCK have to be celebrated. Our season opening this year will be celebrated together with our Classic Day on May 5th from 10am until 4pm.
If you are a passionate Scooterist like the company’s founders Oliver Kluger and Ulf Schröder, then it is obvious to make more out of it. In 1992, Oliver and Ulf founded SCOOTER CENTER Köln in their parents’ garage. A dream came true. Today, we are the oldest and one of the largest Vespa, Lambretta and Automatic mail-order and online shop on the German market.
This year, our Classic Day will be all about our 20th anniversary. Our shop will be opened as usual and on top there will be a private spare part market as well. To keep you guys motivated we will offer plenty of drinks and food from the BBQ.
In addition to live music the engine test stand will be opened as well. A small fee of 5 € will be donated to the children’s hospital in Cologne.
You are all invited to start the season with us. We look forward to meeting you at our shop in Glessen. And here are some impressions from last year:
This year we were celebrating the 5th anniversary of our custom show in Cologne, Germany. The venue of our event had been the skate hall in Cologne-Kalk again.
The preparations for the custom show already started the day before so that the show could start without delay on Saturday morning.
The exhibitors were already queuing up on Saturday morning. At 9am everything was set up and we started registering the scooters and let them in.
The boys were pretty quick with positioning their scooters across the hall. There was plenty of room for everyone and it was great to see them getting ready.
While the boys were getting ready we sorted out the awards and the DJ in order to have a good entertainment throughout the day. We had several award categories like Best Racer, Sprinter, Streetsleeper, Display, Idea, Light & Sound, Oddity, Bodywork, Paint, Plating and best overall.
There were many interesting features to see on the exhibited scooters. The spectators gazed at a low-rider conversion or at BMW M6 style tail for example.
Towards the end we started to give away goodies by throwing the things into the crowd in front of the main stage and did a lottery with the entrance tickets.
The various winners were visibly happy with their awards. It was a great show and we hope to see you guys again next year.
Sunday we have bee at the Customshow in Antwerp. With first rays of spring sun and a deep blue sky, lots of people turned up with their scooters. Everyone was in a very relaxed mood.
At our stall we gave away our Vespa catalogues, showed some nice und upcoming bgm parts and were very pleased, what nice customers we do have.
The scooters on display were from all fields of scootering. From modded up PK’s to stunning original condition bikes to full customs everything was there. The parts fair was massive and lots of bargains have been made. The SCK Shop Demonstrator won three trophies: BEST VESPA CUSTOM, BEST ENGINEERING and PUNTERS CHOICE. The PUNTER CHOICE made our day and it was very nice to see that the people like it too.
Thanks to the LCD for doing our stall and the advice for the Frituren. And a massive thank to the organizers for doing this very special and nice show! Next year we will be back!
This weekend we are looking forward to the Antwerp Customshow! We will do a stall there and bring the SCK Shop Demonstrator with us.
We can’t wait!

We were glad to support our friend Taka in 2011 for the SKRO! scooter Rally. Taka has put his heart and soul into scootering. His Newsblog is the reference for the latest Lambretta News. Last year’s SKOOTER RIDE OUT was the place where the donation to the Vespa Ring was held. This donation was mainly funded at our Open Day 2011. It was one part of the Scooterist 4Japanese Scooterist help for bringing a little joy to the kids of the polluted area after the nuclear desaster.
The donated amount was raised at the Open Day 2011 mainly by a fee for using our dyno. Lots of fuel addicts took the chance to measure the power output of their engine and generously donated at least the 5 € fee. Often more. We still collect money by selling these Stickers. The amount is completeley donated to the Vespa Ring.
Here are the words from our friend Taka about the SKOOTER RIDE OUT @Ise-Shima. We really wished we could have been there and one time this hopefully happens. But now enjoy taka’s report:

SKOOTER RIDEOUT!2011@ISE-SHIMA NATIONAL PARK
19th.NOV.-20th.NOV.
The first day was a very cold rainy day. However, Lot of SCOOTERISTS from various areas in Japan gathered in the Ise Shima international park.
Sadly, the touring-Run of the first day was stopped because of bad weather. But, we enjoyed the party with much alcohol and a delicious dish! ISE-SHIMA is a specialty place of a fresh seafood. We greatly enjoyed it with many many alcohol!
At the party, the ceremony of the donation which charitable project “SCOOTERISTS 4 JAPANESE SCOOTERISTS” of the SCK contributed to VESPA CLUB MIYAGI was also held. And -of course- the donation was presented also from all entrants of SKRO!.
And the entrants scrambled for the fantastic premiums(Parts, clothing, decal, accessories etc..) which entrants and many SHOPS in the world supported happily in the game!
After the party drank alcohol, and night advanced and it went in the room of each hotel by SCOOTER TALK……
The 2nd day was fine weather from the morning. Temperature is not cold, either. We collected the candidate and went out for the early morning run. The wind of early morning Ise Shima was comfortable, and the exhaust sound of 2stroke sounded pleasantly.
After the Japanese breakfast, we wentout for a short touring run by all the entrants. So we enjoyed the good road and seaside view in Ise Shima National Park!
I feel that Japanese Scooter Scene is changing in several years. The Scooter friends in the world joined hands by evolution of communication of the Internet.
Thank you for the always big Supports. SCK!!!

Cheers,My Friend!
