A somewhat different calendar for scooterists

The dream of mobility and independence turned the VW Beetle into a post war symbol. But this is not the only feature it shares with classic scooters like Vespa and Lambretta.

La Dolce Vita

Last week we took the Lambretta DL to Verona and parked it at a friends place. It was a very warm welcome and handing the Lambretta over took one or two glasses longer than initially planned. We love Italian hospitality.

Dean picked the scooter up and brought it to the hallowed halls of RLC Rimini Lambretta Centre to refine it. We will keep you posted here in the Scooter Center Blog, so that you are always up to date with the development of the new BGM PRO Demonstrator-Lambretta.

Protect your scooter from theft

Customers whose scooters have been stolen call us for help over and over again. Most of the time it is about precious collector’s items like the Vespa or Lambretta models. grip-lock-schloss-test-gut

Therefore, we want to point out once more that we have locks on offer. Unfortunately, you can never be 100% secure but it gives you a good conscience when parking your scooter with a lock system attached to it – even in your own garage/basement. Attach it to a chain and also an additional lock that makes it impossible to ride the scooter or push it away, e.g. the Grip-Lock – system, that locks the throttle and the brake lever in braking position and blocks the front wheel.

Bon voyage – Dean comes with the BSG Corse bike to visit Scooter Center

Dean Orton, the main man behind Rimini Lambretta Centre, came to visit us for a couple of days. On his way from Italy to Venlo Scooter Run and afterwards to the Harz ring for the ESC race, he came to visit his old friends here. The reason for Dean’s days off from work was to give the BSG corse engine a proper test ride and thrash it as hard as possible.

The testing of the engine is done in the proper way, just the way it will be used by a common rider. First of all the scooter is packed with Dean’s mod tat and additionally with:

  • a second expansion chamber to be tested
  • a bag full of spares and
  • camping gear for Venlo.

Then the bike is thrashed about the motorways and country roads across Europe (Rimini, Italy – Austria – Germany – Venlo, Netherlands). His test ride also took him to Scooter Center Cologne and to the Harz ring for the ESC race.

80mph – restricted to 50hp

This is real testing over a long distance with sitting happily at 80 mph all day and plenty of throttle left to easily hit 95 mph and all this with a very short gear ratio of 4.9.

The 305 cc barrel on the CNC machined casings is restricted by the programmable ignition to 50 hp. Unrestricted it gave a 63 hp at the Rimini Lambretta Centre dyno.

Scooter Racing at the Harz ring

At the Harz ring this weekend there will be held the next ESC race. Dean met the Casa Lambretta racing team last night. Today the first testing of the Casa race bikes will take place and the last preparation before the races will be done. The Casa Lambretta race bikes feature the Casa Performance range as well as some BGM parts that are used on these bikes. We were happy to supply the front and rear shockers, the Silentblocks as well as our BGM Superstrong Lambretta clutches for the bikes.

On the 25th of April we were invited to the Open Day and shop opening of the new Rimini Lambretta Centre premises. This weekend was one of the best ever, with a stunning shop, loads of food and drinks and the test riding of scooters that made history –like both Innocenti twin cylinder prototypes- and bikes that probably will make history – like the BSG 305 cc one

On Monday we finally had the pleasure to welcome Dean at our place! It was a pleasure every single second and a lot of piss taking has taken place. After a first tour through the shop on Monday and even some business talk we had dinner together and the stories never ended. While Dean quotes our Generation XI Smallframe Vespa as the most beautiful object in the universe, he can’t be stopped to let us know that the look of the BGM Lambretta Test Bike is the most shittiest Lambretta he ever came across. A theory we are confronted with from the first day Dean saw the Test Bike at the 2nd edition of the Riva del Garda Customshow in 2013. To stop this, we will send the Test Bike over to them to have the optics matched to the perfectly working engineering of it.

On Tuesday Dean tested the bike in the rain on the beautiful routes around Cologne/Bergheim and came in for the traditional afternoon tea and some more stories and ideas about how to improve Lambretta parts.

On Wednesday the plans were to do another tour and take some pictures of how we proceed orders to show them at home. This has been missed though, because we wanted to see how the BSG engine performed on the dyno with the different pipes Dean had with him. Sadly we ran out of time and hadn’t the chance to put the Big Box on the 305, to modify an U-bend for the exhaust stub took too long and lunch was waiting and afterwards Dean had to leave.

We send our best regards to all the staff at Rimini Lambretta Centre and to Vittorio and his race team and keep our fingers crossed!

Hünersdorff “Fuel Friend” transportable jerry cans 1 litre, 2 litres and 3 litres with fuel filler for all petrol nozzles. All of these fit in the glove box of a Vespa.

Summertime is the time to travel. Have you ever been in that situation, fearing that the petrol left in your tank won’t last until the next petrol station? Have you even ever had a breakdown due to an empty tank? We know this problem and therefore searched for a solution – and found it:

Extremely handy transportable jerry cans

Our Hünersdorff jerry cansMade in Germany can usually be filled with a petrol nozzle at the petrol station and have a volume of 1 litre, 2 litres or 3 liters, which comes with the certainty to get to the next opened petrol station.

The 1 litre Fuel Friend is equipped with two very handy flaps at the sides, in order to attach the jerry can safely to the scooter. For a Vespa or Lambretta this happens for example under or on the seat, for a Vespa GTS or Gilera Runner in the luggage box or, according to the type of scooter, the jerry can can be attached under the fairing or to the frame. Thanks to the flaps there are no limits to your creativity.

Hünersdorff 2 litre jerry can with integrated spout

This standard Hünersdorff jerry can does not have a large mouth and has to be filled by the help of a funnel. But something special is hidden beneath its small cap: If you detach the cap, you will find a small snorkel. You pull this integrated spout out of the can, which enables you to cleanly fill your tank with petrol.

The Hünersdorff 2 litre jerry can also has a flap to securely attach it to the scooter. Which is missing for the 2 litre “Fuel Friend”.

3 litre jerry can

The 3 litre transportable jerry can is traditionally shaped. Even this three litre jerry can can still be fitted in the glove box of a Vespa PX EFL or LML Star. You have to place it vertically – the can won’t leak and on a long ride out three liters of additional petrol really calm you down!

Safe and clean thanks to automatic ventilation

It’s annoying when the mix of petrol and oil drops next to the tank! This is not only an ecological and economic waste, but also harms the paint of the scooter. Using the safety fuel filler for jerry cans puts an end to this.

There is an easy explanation: The fuel filler is equipped with an automatic ventilation. A feature you know from racing: Turn the can around and it won’t leak. Only when you push the fuel filler on the tank, the lid will open and petrol is being filled in the tank. When you stop putting pressure on the filler, the jerry can is sealed and won’t leak.

The air used for ventilation flows through a central opening, while the petrol runs into the tank through openings at the sides. When reducing pressure, a rubber seal will prevent further drops.

Many thanks go to the many visitors of our Classic Day 2015. The sweet smell of two stroke engines still lingers around the Scooter Center. You really gave our dynamometer some stick. The waiting queue seemed to be endless.

The weather was fine, all sausages were being eaten, the refrigerator truck is empty and we have fewer products in the remaining stock. Which means: you are satisfied and happy – and many of you went home with a great bargain. The 10% discount in the store and our Scootershop was, of course, also a winner.

After spending the morning at Polini, we spent the afternoon at Casa Lambretta.

In cooperation with Casa Lambretta we supply all Lambretta restoration parts. The Casa Lambretta range includes, amongst others, parts for the very old shaft driven Lambretta models m (A) to F, Lambretta Smallframe parts for Junior and Lui and spare parts for the Li family. Vittorio Tessera offers spare parts “made in Italy” but also accessories and tuning parts for all Lambretta scooters.

The entire Casa business is focused on Vittorio. He is the key player for all reproducing parts. Dean Orton and the Rimini Lambretta Centre recently offered to conduct external quality checks for Casa. This is how Casa products are being constantly improved. The toolbox lock for series 3 is a recent example. It was equipped with a new locking cylinder and finally no longer gets anybody’s attention due to unpleasant rattle.

Vittorio Tessera does not only do restoration works. He has also published many books on Lambretta and scooters in general. Vittorio’s book Innocenti The Definitive History is the core literature on Lambretta. Later the Restoration Guide was added, which explains all details concerning restoration of various Lambretta models:

After an intensive and extensive tour through the scooter museum, we step down to the Casa Lambretta shop and warehouse. Vittorio shows us his new Lambretta parts, which he got since our last visit or which currently are in a development stage. For example:

Yummy stopover

In a well organised corso of about 50 Lambrettas we reached our first interim goal after a few kilometres: Europlastsucci. An old customer and manufacturer of GRP frame sections and further Lambretta specialities.

In order to regain strength for the rest of our ride out and as as mental preparation for lunch we have an Aperitivo. After adjusting the tick-over rpm with Prosecco and other non-liquid refreshments we leave the city and cross the mountains in a great track.

Of course we have already had the opportunity to drive many extreme scooters. But Philipp’s scooter for the corso was a doozie:Lambretta Scooter Center Italien

BSG Corse Lambretta with 305cc cubic capacity and performance of more than 50 HP. The most violent we ever rode. CNC – engine block milled from one single piece, 305cc BSG Corse cylinder, Cyclone5 5 speed gearbox and BGM PRO Superstrong clutch. This monster has more than 50 HP. The demonstrator was downsized from 51HP to 45HP via ignition for the RLC Open Day.

First impression:

The beast has instant throttle control and within a blink of the eye you exceeded 100km/h. Thanks to BGM PRO SUPERSTRONG clutch, switching gears is clear, easy and very smooth, the 5 speed gearbox perfectly transferred. Power without limits and pressure in every gear.

Lambretta with a high amount of performance

The CNC engine has a crankshaft with wide crank webs. In order to securely transfer the performance of the 305cc cylinders to the street, the proven components BGM PRO shock absorbers and BGM silent blocks are used for the wheel suspension. Due to the enormous cubic capacity the exhaust is large. However its distance to the ground is sufficient for it to not put down on the street, even in hairpin bends. A vehicle of such a high performance also needs a strong braking system. RLC uses a a MMW disc brake.

There is a high amount of performance in this engine, so it doesn’t come unexpected that the frame hits its limits, since the original engine offers only a fifth of performance when being compared to the BSG Corse engine

Of course, Scooter Center also supplies other scooter shops with products. And we do this globally. One of our favourite scooter shops is the Italian RLC – Rimini Lambretta Centre.

Rimini Lambretta Centre We mainly supply RLC with BGM products and we are proud to have convinced one of the major experts for Lambrettas to sell BGM products in Italy.

The RLC team is specialised in the perfect restoration and conservation of Lambretta scooters. For instance even Vittorio Tessera (Casa Lambretta) gives scooters from his precious Lambretta collection to Rimini Lambretta Centre.

Cyclone5, the 5-speed gearbox, is one example for products developed by RLC. Dean Orton and his team often rediscover extremely rare NOS (New Old Stock) parts or rare spare parts.

Tickets for winning the Lambretta are available during events such as the Scootershow in Cologne or the Scooter Meltdown in Kalkar.

Scooterist Meltdown in Kalkar is quickly approaching.

We already started preparations for our stall of Scooter Center and BGM. We are also already looking forward to our joint stall with the Jetsons in Kalkar and to the 25th Silver Special anniversary, where you can win the Lambretta.

As already mentioned before, our BGM parts are used in order to get the technology on a 21st century level. To also assure a visually pleasing look, the Jetsons used their Germany wide network and initiated a nice Lambretta restoration.

Casa Lambretta parts replaced those original parts that needed to be replaced. Lambretta parts in best quality, where the only difference to the original is the Casa Lambretta logo.

Cleaning the coating

First, the coating of the original paint was removed with acetone. After welding cracks, the ribbing was refinished with a Kraftformer machine. Jetsons charged a real expert in vintage restoration with the sheet metal works. It was Michael of AUTOMAX in Schlangen.

After cleaning, sadly the thin ornament line fell victim to acetone.

Jetsons Lambretta Club 25th Silver Special Anniversary

14.-16.8.2014 in Paderborn

Jetsons Lambretta Club celebrates this year their 25th anniversary. One thing should be clear to anyone who knows the Jetsons: it will be vigorously celebrated. While the tanks are empty from time to time, here the glasses are always half full. Celebrated from August 14th until 16th in the founding city of Paderborn.

In the heart of East Westphalia, the local hospitality offers great conversations with drunks at the bar, genuine Westphalia cuisine (curry sausage with French fries and other dead animals from the grill), and, of course, the sheet metal geared scooter enthusiasm is the top priority! Invited are of course all Lambretta riders, all Vespa riders, all Carsuckers and also the riders/inside from all strange vehicles.

After the positive experience with our bgm Test Bike and our Charity Campaign Scooterists for Japanese scooterists, it was clear that we have to stand there. Particularly half of the income from ticket sales will be donated to charity.

In a highly conspirative meeting with Hansi, the deal was sealed. The Jetsons draw another deep shelf in the bgm and pimp engine, suspension, electrics. We have made parts available from Casa Lambretta for the restoration of the Lambretta. The results can now be seen here and the progress of the project will be presented in the coming weeks.

It was a long wait, but it was worth it! From now on we can offer you the a SUPERSTRONG clutch for your Lambretta. For the Vespa clutch system -regardless if Largeframe or Smallframe- the SUPERSTRONG range is the reference and setting the standards for all Vespa clutches.

The new Lambretta clutch features some very unique and special details. And it can combined with standard Lambretta clutch parts and plates. So you’ll have a clutch where you can get parts nearly everywhere and in the future as well.

The clutches comes as complete sets with 46 or 47 rear sprocket and can be used for LI/SX as well as dl/GP clutch operating systems.

The well elaborated design with ten springs and six plates gives a very easy and smooth to operate clutch unit. Even with the combination of 15 teeth front sprocket and 47 rear sprocket, which puts a heavy load on the clutch it can easy handle even the most powerful TS1 engines. Mathematical the combination is capable of handling 60 Nm torque.

Rear sprockets with 46 or 47 teeth

You can choose between 46 or 47 teeth at the rear wheel. Plenty of windows ensure a lightened flywheel and enough room for the oil to enter and keep the clutch plates and bushing oiled all the time.

The sides of the rear sprocket are longer to give the option for different clutch plate and steel discs combinations.Together with the newly available bgm PRO front sprockets the drive train of your Lambretta can be uprated perfectly.

Clutch spider, pressure plate and top plate

For a very smooth and accurate operation the clutch spider, clutch pressure and top plate were re-designed from scratch.

The CNC machined clutch spider is extended and the legs are perfectly matched to the pressure plate. This gives a very easy release of the clutch unit even under hard acceleration from a stand still.

The even pressure of ten instead of five springs even adds to this.

As invented by Sticky we have two threads in the clutch spider to make compressing the clutch a cakewalk. With two screws and nuts you can easily compress the clutch unit for assembly or re-assembly.

New front pinion for Lambretta LI, LIS, SX, TV (series 2-3), DL, GP –

From now on we can offer you pinions for your Lambretta from bgm PRO in perfect material and “made in Germany” quality.

The pinions are made from high-strength, heat-treated steel in grades 16, 17, 18 and 19 teeth in one CNC piece.

The dimensions correspond to the original Innocenti, so that the chain line remains correct. The pinions are labeled for easy identification. Thus the reduction ratio can be seen in the installed state without troublesome counting as it pulls straight to the rear wheel.

We can offer you suitable chains from Iris in reasonable price range and Iwis in heavy duty quality.

In addition to the required special tools to replace the chain and the sprocket, you, of course, also need a

new fill of oil and seals for the oil fill and drain plug, and the transmission cover.

When changing oil, it is worthwhile to equip the gear cover directly with a sight glass – making the oil level in the gear always under control.
