Platónika test drives after more than 7,000 km is more than completed, so here we go!
Together with Scooter Center to Zell am See from 10th to 12th September 2021
Enough of mile munching going and leaving work from day to day. It is about time for those epic trips, meeting other Vespisti and collecting memories for a lifetime. The Vespa Alp Das will be the perfect start for new adventures!
In my personal ranking of events, VAD have a special place:
- It was the second biggest event that I took part in. The biggest were the Vespa World Days in Celle, both in 2017. At the VAD I celebrated together with 1.000 Vespistas from 20 different nations.
- It was the first meeting after I set foot on European soil.
- It was the first time to see so many Vespas together, including the 60 oldest Vespas on the continent at the Faro Basso race.
- It was also the longest event I have participated in, 8 days non-stop fun.
- The oldest Vespa I’ve ever ridden, the beautiful Vespa Super Sport 180 from Franz, which he nicely lent me.
- The most beautiful landscapes that my eyes have seen.
- In addition, it was the beginning of beautiful friendships, of which I have been able to continue reinforcing.
Back to the future
Now the reasons are others, I‘m going to work there! As part of Scooter Center, which is the official sponsor of the event. The plan -for certain- is riding Platónika there. I‘m getting ready to show you first-hand all this adventure, by now here are some good memories from 2017:
the good friends that I made
The Colombian representation!
Super Sport 180 of Franz
See you there!

Next SC Open Day on 28 August 2021
“The Scooter Centre is closing its shop“, that we would ever say that was unimaginable, even unthinkable, just a few months ago. The thought of it brings tears to our eyes. We have been selling scooter parts since 1992, personally, with passion and love for what we do. The shop was much more than a place of business for us. It was also the perfect place to exchange ideas about our common hobby, to get feedback and also constructive criticism.
But of course we also received a lot of praise, which we were happy about and which always inspired us. The last fifteen months with Corona have changed a lot. Home office workplaces have become just as much a standard as online meetings, minimum distances, hygiene regulations and protective measures. Since the Corona-related closure of the shop in November 2020, we have worked hard to make it possible for you to pick up your goods. This is how our click&collect came into being.
In order to compensate for the permanent closure of the shop, we will continue to offer and expand the click&collect. We are currently working on pick-up options outside our business hours to offer you greater flexibility than ever before. We love the contact with you, our common hobby, laughing together, talking shop and talking up. So we are looking forward to the upcoming Open Day on Saturday 28 August. In addition to this, we have other special events in the pipeline, so that we can continue to talk together about the most beautiful hobby in the world. Be curious what we will come up with for you.
Your Scooter Center Team
VESPA GENTLEMAN GIRO
WHO IS BEHIND IT?
Markus André Mayer, 44 years old and a passionate Vespa fan from the beautiful Allgäu region.
In 2017, Markus was able to combine 3 of his passions (Vespa, charity work and social media) into one Giro Germanica to unite them. With the help of Vespa clubs from German-speaking countries, he was able to generate over €25,000 in donations for the German Children’s Cancer Foundation’s Forest Pirate Camp during a 42-day fundraising ride. Of course, the Scooter Center was also part of his Giro Germanica And we supported the campaign.
Now Markus has something new in mind, and the Scooter Center is supporting him again. It is a matter of the heart for us! This time we are the main sponsor and support and sponsor his new mission extensively.
Here on the Scooter Center blog, we will keep you up to date on this year’s mission over the next few months. We start today with the first presentation of the VESPA GENTLEMAN GIRO, look forward to an interview and a making-of of the engine we are building for Markus.
WHAT IS THE MISSION?
Markus has decided to dedicate the entire year 2021 full time to fundraising for children with cancer. He will start with the 3 initiatives to raise funds for 40 cancer organisations in 40 countries across Europe:
- Great European fundraising race
- 10 relay races in different countries
- 1 World Record Poker Run(explanation)
So for 2021 he is planning a much bigger action: within 8 months he wants to unite the whole European Vespa scene by a big fundraising ride around whole Europe with several linked actions to raise at least 250.000€ for 40 national cancer foundations and care centres. To complete this heartfelt project, he will need about 14 months in total. Through various large travel projects, such as his
- 80 days around the world in 2018,
- USA Crossing in 2017,
- or European Tour in 2014,
it was already possible for him to gain a lot of experience and, above all, to make many contacts with scooter riders all over the world.
The contacts to the national clubs throughout Europe make it possible to identify suitable donation targets in advance, such as the Liga contra Cancro in Portugal, and to coordinate the planned measures and events in the respective countries. During the trip, Markus plans to set 3 Guinness Book of World Records and thus also draw the interest of the public and the media to the facilities, clubs and the fundraising campaign.
WHAT IS THE ROUTE?
25.000 km through 40 European countries. The actual route will be determined by the 200+ clubs I want to meet on the way to collect donations.
Even if it doesn’t look like it on this map yet: of course a stop at the Scooter Center is planned again, we’ll keep you posted!
WITH WHICH VEHICLE?
“Eleanore” – the Smallframe Vespa. For the tour he will use a Vespa V50N from 1971. It will be the longest scooter ride on 50cc ever!
We are currently working on the engine of the Vespa, so stay tuned, more about that soon here in the blog.
CAN YOU HELP?
Yes, of course you can help too, Markus is dependent on support and is happy about donations to the individual organisations, more information and donation options here. You are also welcome to share this post with friends via Facebook, Whatsapp etc.
Photos and Videos Vespa Alp Days 2020 Reloaded
One thing in advance: we are already looking forward to next year’s Vespa Alp Days 2021 in Zell am See(June 01-08, 2021) and are confident that we will be able to celebrate “normal” Alp Days with you again. Registration and information you will find soon here: https://www.the-alp-days.at/
Everything is different this year. Corona makes it possible. The date in June was cancelled, like many other events. Most of the scooter meetings fell victim to the epidemic. But then the Vespa Alp Days, under these difficult conditions, fortunately took place in the Alp Days Reloaded Edition.
We from the Scooter Center have been following this super Vespa meeting in Zell am See since the World Vespa Days 2009, when we were already the main sponsor and represented with a large stand and team. This huge international Vespa meeting was the birth of the following AlpDays event, which should take place for the 11th time this year. The Scooter Center is again the main sponsor and once again we were on site, albeit in this special situation with a mini team. What the two of us were able to experience in this short time was simply amazing: We started at 9:00 am in the morning with the Großglockner Bergpreis, I have never seen so many Vespa Rally 180 / 200 in one place before. Have a look here:
Videos Zell am See 2020
The result is 2 videos.
Tip: for the Großglockner exit Full Movie
you should take 30 minutes. It’s worth it! The course of the road in connection with the breathtaking mountain scenery at 2,500 meters above sea level make the scenery and the video simply epic.
I don’t know how Nicole and Franz always do it with the weather, but see for yourself!

The ESC – European Scooter Challenge scooter race
The Scooter Center supports motor sports and also the ESC – the European Scooter Challenge. As the name suggests, it is a circuit racing series with classic scooters made of sheet metal, mainly Vespa and Lambretta. Already in the eighties the first circuit races were held in Austria and Germany.
The main goal of the ESC is to provide a broad platform for scooter racing enthusiasts with all kinds of requirements.
The various racing classes, which cover beginners to professionals as well as ladies, are based on these thoughts.
Especially the standard classes are to be emphasized, in which real top-class motorsport can be realized with low maintenance and money expenditure.
ESC race report – Cheb Challenge 2020 – Kartarena Cheb (CZ) – 01.08.2020
After the year 2020 offered hardly any possibilities for sports activities on old 2-stroke shift scooters, the time had finally come on 01.08.2020!
The first race of the European Scooter Challenge of the year 2020 could take place. The Kartarena in Cheb, Czech Republic opened its doors and more than 40 Vespa racers came from
- Germany,
- Austria,
- France
- and Poland
to finally let the asphalt glow again.
Heat Battle of Cheb
With temperatures of over 30°C and bright sunshine all weekend long, this was an easy exercise. Those who already arrived on Thursday or Friday could use the time to get the last shadow places in the paddock and to test the scooter extensively on the track.
Raceday
Saturday was the day. Race Day! We started in 5 classes, among them 3 “standard classes” two for small frames, one for large frames, where the scooters have to be equipped with uniform engine components to enable equal conditions and exciting duels.
Especially exciting was the Smallfames. 17 starters competed for the places on the podium in the small unit class K5. Among them Vespa legend Stoffi Maier and newcomer Valentino Randazzo. The old master and the young daredevil offered each other thrilling duels with daring driving manoeuvres at the head of the field. Shortly before the end of the race, however, the two leaders were involved in a crash, and so victory went to Markus Moderer, who drew attention to himself with fast lap times. Valentino saved himself to 3rd place, 2nd place went to Felix Richter.
The second gripping duel of the day was in the faster Smallframe Einheitsklasse K4 between Achim Wolf and Robert Leibfarth. The latter was able to secure pole position in qualifying. With a rocket start however Achim put himself directly at the top of the field. After some duels at the top Robert could push himself with a hard braking maneuver past the leader and drive the race home. The podium of the K4 was finally completed by Benedigt Neuberger who crossed the finish line only a blink of an eye earlier than his competitor Albert Heigold.
The other racing classes also showed exciting racing on this wonderful racing day. Congratulations to all podium finishers.
New starters welcome!
The ESC was also able to welcome three new starters this weekend. The newcomers were warmly welcomed into the driver’s circle and – like every new participant in the ESC – were exempted from the entry fee at their first race.
For those of you who are now in the mood for scooter racing: 2 more ESC races will take place this year. The ESC Polish GP on 29.08.20 in Zielona Góra (PL) and the “KR automation” race at the Harzring on 26.09.20. Registration and entry at www.eurochallenge.de
Thanks to helpers and organizers, and the SCK for their support.
See you at the next race … ;)
The results in detail:
- K1: 1. Romain Baguet; 2. Thomas Lenkeit; 3. Marten Schnitzler
- K3: 1. Toni Fattorusso; 2. Christian Gattinger; 3. Marco Abbate
- K4: 1st Robert Leibfarth; 2nd Achim Wolf; 3rd Benedigt Neuberger
- K5: 1. Markus Moderer; 2. Felix Richter; 3. Valentino Randazzo
- K6: 1. Matthias Sinkovits; 2. Maiko Jandl; 3. Igor Kulesza
Fastest race lap: Achim Wolf (1:03.102)

PMT tyres – uncompromising sports and racing tyres for scooters
Have you driven the new PMT tyres yet? If you are also in scooter racing, you will know about the enormous importance of the tyres.
It is not only the tread pattern that matters, but especially the right rubber compound. The optimal tyre is tuned:
- matching the weather
- suitable for the track
- suitable for the vehicle
- suitable for the driving style and ability
We now have a wide range of tyres from PMT Tyres
The enormous difference in performance of tyres in motorsport is immediately obvious to anyone who has tried the legendary PMT tyres.
Buy tyres now to be ready for the race trackMade in Italy: PMT Tyres
The Italian tyre manufacturer PMT (Pauselli Modell Tyres) has been in existence since 1990, originally producing tyres for RC cars and the popular Italian minibike racing series. Since they have also developed tyres for motorcycles and especially racing tyres for scooters, they have very quickly achieved a top position among the favourite tyres of racing drivers. The PMT tyres are available in perfect compounds for the various soil, weather and temperature conditions.
Slick, mixture: hard
The slick with hard compound is ideal for tracks with high asphalt temperatures and heavy use due to many exchange bends and braking manoeuvres. The hard compound is the most abrasion resistant and can therefore be used very well in Endurance / long distance races. The warm-up phase for the optimum operating temperature (~ 80° C) is significantly longer with this compound than with the “medium” or “soft” compound.
The recommended air pressure for front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.
Slick, mixture: medium
The medium bridges the gap between the hard and persistent as well as the extremely well adhering but also quickly wearing soft mixture. The medium thus covers a very wide range of applications. Its optimum operating temperature is ~ 75°C and, like the hard compound, requires a longer running-in time than the soft compound to reach temperature.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.
Slick, compound: soft
The soft PMT compound offers full grip even at lower temperatures. It wears out correspondingly quickly at higher temperatures and then no longer offers its full grip level. On the other hand, it reaches its optimum operating temperature of 70°C very quickly.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and between 1.4-1.9 bar for the rear.
Slick, rain
PMT offers with the Rain Slick a new interpretation of an intermediate. Based on the rubber compound of the pure rain tyre, an intermediate with slick tread pattern has been created. It is ideal for changeable weather conditions with the same proportion of wet and dry sections.
The recommended inflation pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.
Rain Racing
The rain tyre from PMT plays in the highest league of rain experts for the circuit.
Whoever mounted this tyre needs a good excuse if it didn’t work out with a good placement…
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.
Drag race
The Drag Race tyres from PMT are ideal for all quartermill engines.
Here no grip is lost and all power is transferred to the asphalt without slip.
This also means that there is no mercy for clutch or gearbox..
Scooter Center Classic Day Update 03/20:

Classic Day 2018 at Scooter Center: over 1,000 visitors – great weather, great event!
We have to confess it: we really had luck with the wather.
<iframe width=”900″ height=”470″ src=”https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/EVc6FPW7fVg” frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; encrypted-media” allowfullscreen></iframe>Thank you!
It was a great event – we’d like to thank all visitors for coming!
The first bargain hunters already came in the early morning to our huge parts market with remaining stock, b-stock and samples. Our coffee machine worked on full blast. Then, everything happened very quickly: the first clubs and single scooterists arrived with their Vespa and Lambretta scooters. And Scooter Center sometimes seemed to burst at the seams.
Dynamometer
The atmosphere at the dynamometer was very fervent. Except for a couple of breathers, one by one, scooters had to show here what was behind their side panel. Alex and Uwe (despite hearing protection) can maybe still hear the sound of roaring scooters in their ears.
Genuine people
Over 1,000 visitors from near and far, e.g. from Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, celebrated with us our Classic Day 2018. Customers and partners and several scooter clubs enjoyed the company of like-minded scooter riders. Tasty sausage specialities, cold drinks and a delicious ice cream from the ice cream Ape van.
Bargains
In our store there were special prices as well as the special sale of remaining stock, b-stock and samples. Moreover, there were also private sellers offering their second-hand parts at our parts market.

11th Scooter Customshow 2018 in Cologne, Germany
Here we have some pictures of the custom show! The video is coming soon. Here some more pictures of the winners.
Wonderful weather – wonderful people – wonderful scooters
Wow, it was a great weekend! On Saturday, the 5th of May, we kicked off the 11th edition our the Custom Show which took place in Cologne, Germany.
On Friday everything was prepared quickly and in the evening we could welcome the first guests arriving from Munich and Hamburg. On Saturday morning our Scooter Center team made the last preparations and at 9am we could welcome our international participants.
The location of the custom show, Abenteuerhallen in Cologne Kalk, offers every year a special atmosphere: the engine production by the company Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) in Cologne was a significant milestone. The production of 4-stroke engines began in 1876 in Cologne. Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach and Ettore Bugatti worked together for the development of 4-stroke engines. The basis of the 4-stroke engine was created in the KHD halls in Cologne.
The Abenteuerhallen are therefore the perfect location to display our beloved scooters and show them to a wide public. No matter if a 2-stroke or 4-stroke, with gear change or automatic! Also on Saturday there was a wide range of stunning scooters on display.
The exhibition took place in the two halls, on over 5,000 m2, and for over 1,000 visitors and more than 120 different scooters. We also had participants who presented their scooter for the first time at a scooter show and participants coming from Germany as well as from other countries such as Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Switzerland, England, Italy and even Colombia.
In the outdoor area a relaxing atmosphere with a cosy beer garden and a wide range of gastronomic offer. Out of the halls lots of scooters, some of them worth being prized as custom scooter.
We look forward to the 12th Scooter Center Custom Show!
Thank you to our sponsors!
