We currently have some very interesting Vespa Smallframe with round headlight for sale. 3 Vespa 50SS, made in Taiwan by “Taiwan Vespa Co. Ltd.”.
Very rare Vespa models!
The Taiwanese Vespa SS doesn’t have a lot in common with the rare Italian Smallframe SuperSprint models. However, it is a highly interesting Vespa, which is very rare in Europe.
Special characteristics of these Vespa models:
The handlebar immediately catches your eye. It is a little larger than a Primavera handlebar. It slightly resembles a Rally 200 handlebar, which has been reduced in size. Its proportions still perfectly fit the original Vespa Smallframe frame (so sadly no neat SS leg shield).
The diameter of the head light is 140mm, but the flat trim makes it seem smaller than a PX or Rally headlight of the same size. You won’t find any marks on the head lamp, except for an encircled “NL”.
Light switch and indicator switch are made of plastic and resemble the PX old type switches. The speedo has the same size as the Primavera, ET3 or Rally speedo, but is made from grey plastic and was labelled “Taiwan Vespa Co. Ltd.”.
The square mudguard crest, the Vespa logo on the leg shield and levers for brake and clutch have black paint or coating. The rubber floor mat on the frame tunnel was not made as for the Rally, Primavera or ET3, but it has square nubs, just like the Vespa OX old type.
The seat also resembles the seat of a Vespa PX old type in small. The closed four-hole rims have a green metallic coating.
An ignition switch is located at the right hand side of the fuel tap. The 12 Volt rectifier for the 12 Volt PK ignition is fitted in the toolbox below the seat. Removing the toolbox gives way to the winker relay for both handlebar indicators.
Let’s now turn to the unique part, which turns the Smallframe into “SS”. Right above the original ET3 tail light the branding Vespa 50SS is emblazoned in prominent position in chrome against a black background.
The vehicle identification number prefix is V5SA2T.

After spending the morning at Polini, we spent the afternoon at Casa Lambretta.
Spare parts, accessories and tuning parts for all Lambretta Scooters
In cooperation with Casa Lambretta we supply all Lambretta restoration parts. The Casa Lambretta range includes, amongst others, parts for the very old shaft driven Lambretta models m (A) to F, Lambretta Smallframe parts for Junior and Lui and spare parts for the Li family. Vittorio Tessera offers spare parts “made in Italy” but also accessories and tuning parts for all Lambretta scooters.
The entire Casa business is focused on Vittorio. He is the key player for all reproducing parts. Dean Orton and the Rimini Lambretta Centre recently offered to conduct external quality checks for Casa. This is how Casa products are being constantly improved. The toolbox lock for series 3 is a recent example. It was equipped with a new locking cylinder and finally no longer gets anybody’s attention due to unpleasant rattle.
Vittorio Tessera does not only do restoration works. He has also published many books on Lambretta and scooters in general. Vittorio’s book Innocenti The Definitive History is the core literature on Lambretta. Later the Restoration Guide was added, which explains all details concerning restoration of various Lambretta models:
characteristics,
gloss paints,
galvanic processes
and anything else you should know.
Lambretta Museum
And this is not the end. There also is the museum, which exhibits milestones in the development in the history of scooters. These have been collected from all over the world and have been restored, if necessary. Lambretta is in the focus of the museum and you can admire models from the oldest Lambretta to the prototypes, which are also treated in Innocenti The Definitive History.
After an intensive and extensive tour through the scooter museum, we step down to the Casa Lambretta shop and warehouse. Vittorio shows us his new Lambretta parts, which he got since our last visit or which currently are in a development stage. For example:
all spare parts for the SH carburetor including atomisers,
all parts for the gearbox,
all springs for lamps,
brass throttle roller and gas roller,
Series 2 gear change twist grip
… These are only some of the new Casa Lambretta parts that we will receive from Vittorio.

On the fourth day of our trip to Italy we were still flashed and we had another two highlights on our schedule::
Visiting POLINI in Bergamo
Visiting the Lambretta Museum of Vittorio Tessera including a quick check of the new CASA LAMBRETTA parts
Scooter Center visits POLINI in Bergamo
Polini is famous for Vespa tuning parts and scooter and motorcycle motor sports. You can buy high-performance tuning products of high quality at Scooter Center at a great cost-benefit ratio: POLINI Scooter Shop
The roots of the family business are a small push bike production site in Bologna. After WWII Polini Battista initially built bicycles. We got to know his sons and grand-sons during our visit. Today they very successfully continue to manage the business.
The video
A perfect family business. We meet at least three generations of the family. All of them working in various positions within the company. We were introduced to yet another family member at every corner. They work in the company as engineers, design engineers, photographers, designers and managers.
Today, only a badge and some old pictures by the entrance to the Polini headquarters remind of its roots. Today Polini is no longer in the bicycle business. Or almost. Polini wouldn’t be Polini if they didn’t even tune an E-Bike.
You can now purchase a tuning kit for e-bike engines of e.g. Bosch or Panasonic with considerable performance enhancement from 25 to 50 km/h.
But lets turn back to real motor sports.
Handing over the Customshow cup
We were looking forward to this meeting, because Polini is one of our most important suppliers and one of our oldest business partners. Polini has supported our Scooter Center Customshow SCOOTERSHOW from the very first day. So now, after 8 years, it was high time to finally say thank you on site and handing over a current Custumshow cup.
We were shown around the families hallowed halls, from development to labs with stress tests and several dynamometers, from garage and assembly halls to warehouse and logistics.
We were very impressed by the size and the open-minded and very warm welcome.
You know who we are. The long journey has to pay off and business didn’t come up short: In the future we will have an even larger Polini product range, for example:
Polini CP – carburetor
Polini CP carburetors have been part of our product range for a long time.
It has gotten around that these easily adjustable carburetors also run perfectly on Vespa Smallframe and Lambretta. Its areas of use are limited, because only these sizes are obtainable: 17,5 / 19 / 21 / 23 / 24 (Evolution).
In-house development by Polini, MADE in ITALY. PWK – jets fit!
Polini brake pads
The brake pads are used in Polini Cup races and other racing series. They fill their drivers with enthusiasm.
You can purchase Polini brake pads that fit your scooter at your Scooter Center Shop.
Polini modern Vespa exhaust
Brand new Polini exhaust for new Vespa models:
Vespa GT 125 i.e. 60
Vespa GT 250

Vespa GTS 250 i.e.
Vespa GTS 300 i.e. Super
Vespa GTV 250 i.e.

Great looks, which have been especially adapted to the flow of the Vespa chassis. Great processing and finish! The video proves the full sound.
Available soon with and without catalyzer / homologation at Scooter Center Modern Vespa-Shop.
Thank you POLINI
We would like to thank Roberta and the Polini family once again, knowing that they read our blog from time to time :-)
Teste Cromate S.C., the local Lambretta Club, organised an awesome ride out in the soft hills in the region of Emilia Romagna on Sunday as a side program to the Rimini Lambretta Centre Open Day.
Entire video
You can find the video of the entire ride out beginning at the stop at Europlastsucci with GPS – measured speed display. Enjoy:
Yummy stopover
In a well organised corso of about 50 Lambrettas we reached our first interim goal after a few kilometres: Europlastsucci. An old customer and manufacturer of GRP frame sections and further Lambretta specialities.
In order to regain strength for the rest of our ride out and as as mental preparation for lunch we have an Aperitivo. After adjusting the tick-over rpm with Prosecco and other non-liquid refreshments we leave the city and cross the mountains in a great track.
Lambretta BSG Corse with 45HP and 305cc
Of course we have already had the opportunity to drive many extreme scooters. But Philipp’s scooter for the corso was a doozie:
BSG Corse Lambretta with 305cc cubic capacity and performance of more than 50 HP. The most violent we ever rode. CNC – engine block milled from one single piece, 305cc BSG Corse cylinder, Cyclone5 5 speed gearbox and BGM PRO Superstrong clutch. This monster has more than 50 HP. The demonstrator was downsized from 51HP to 45HP via ignition for the RLC Open Day.
First impression:
The beast has instant throttle control and within a blink of the eye you exceeded 100km/h. Thanks to BGM PRO SUPERSTRONG clutch, switching gears is clear, easy and very smooth, the 5 speed gearbox perfectly transferred. Power without limits and pressure in every gear.
Lambretta with a high amount of performance
The CNC engine has a crankshaft with wide crank webs. In order to securely transfer the performance of the 305cc cylinders to the street, the proven components BGM PRO shock absorbers and BGM silent blocks are used for the wheel suspension. Due to the enormous cubic capacity the exhaust is large. However its distance to the ground is sufficient for it to not put down on the street, even in hairpin bends. A vehicle of such a high performance also needs a strong braking system. RLC uses a a MMW disc brake.
There is a high amount of performance in this engine, so it doesn’t come unexpected that the frame hits its limits, since the original engine offers only a fifth of performance when being compared to the BSG Corse engine
Thanks to Dean Orton for this amazing experience! And thanks to Teste Cromate S.C. for this beautiful day!
Scooter Center trip to Italy – Part 1 Rimini Lambretta Centre
The Scooter Center-Team on a trip to Italy: Last weekend Oliver, Philipp and Heiko started their trip to Italy. They had a tight schedule, but the long way had to pay off: during the weekend they covered more than 3,000 km.
Stops during their trip to Italy:
Rimini Lambretta Centre 20th Anniversary Open Day / Rimini
Rimini Lambretta Centre 20th Anniversary Open Day / Rimini
Following in the tracks of the history of Scooter Center by the Lago di Garda
Video of the first leg
Lake Garda was the first interim target. We visited old friends, enjoyed Italy and wallowed in memories. In its 23 years of the history of Scooter Center Lake Garda plays a crucial role.
Back then, Oliver Kluger bought the very first scooter for Scooter Center and transported it to Germany. The Scooter was a Vespa Rally TS 125. Later, the Vespa was processed in Cologne and resold to Volker, who is still driving it today. He was our first customer and naturally sticks to us. You rather know us for a quick delivery of spare and tuning parts for scooters. However, we currently have several used Vespa scooters on offer.
The night was short and the journey continued early on Saturday morning, heading to Rimini. The track to travel sounds like music to our ears: “Verona, Mantova, Modena, Bologna, Imola, Rimini”. Our anticipation grows, the closer we get to our destination.
The 5 speed Lambretta gearbox is more than a mere part of a scooter to Dean. You know this once you saw the CYCLONE 5 tattoo on his forearm. We mainly supply BGM products to RLC, which are used for their restorations. Lambretta restorations are the main business of Dean Orton and his team. RLC loves and lives Lambretta. Overwhelming Lambretta scooters are created in an impressive garage. Our anticipation and expectations were immense and we should not be disappointed.
Rimini in the region of Emilia Romagna
“Rimini: the Adriatic, centre of beach tourism – a seaside resort with a long tradition, beach, sun, sea.” But we had more important things to do! Our destination was the Zona Industriale: The 20th anniversary and Open Day of Rimini Lambretta Centre.
After a heart warming welcome by many old friends, we started to put up our stall. This was quickly accomplished, since Philipp had sent the products we wanted to display to a wrong address… :-) Luckily we were allowed to display products from the RLC stocks.
Rimini Lambretta Centre Open Day
The grounds around the RLC were quickly filled with mainly Italian and English Lambrettisti. There were overall 500 visitors with about 120 Lambrettas and only a handful of Vespas.
Dean really dished up for the 20th anniversary of RLC. Entering the shop you were welcomed by a world record Lambretta: The fully faired Lambretta that broke the 200 km/h limit on August 8th, 1951. Romolo Ferri set the world record on a motorway that was blocked from traffic between Ingolstadt and Munich. The mechanically supercharged 125cc engine is told to have had about 21 HP.
A huge transportable pizzeria supplied finest specialities from the region including sufficient wine, water, beer and coffee.
Overwhelming Lambretta test drive
RLC had managed to have a circuit blocked from traffic, so that you were able to test drive the scooters within the industrial estate.
Alongside scooters, which have been restored by RLC, there were mainly scooters from the Casa Lambretta collection available for test rides. The two Lambretta Innocenti two-cylinder prototypes were at the centre of attention. In the past months these were restored by RLC for Vittorio Tessera. The June edition of Scooteringwill present the restoration of the interior of the engines. We also did a test ride on the Innocenti two-cylinder prototypes. We can only say: Too sad they didn’t make it into serial production.
Lambretta with 305cc and 50HP
305cc and more than 50HP – the most violent scooter we ever rode: BSG CasaPerformance 305cc prototype. CNC engine block with 305cc BSG cylinder, Cyclone5 5 speed gearbox and BGM PRO Superstrong clutch. This monster has more than 50 HP. The Lambretta’s programmable ignition was downsized to 45 HP for the test drives. On our cruise on Sunday we were able to extensively test it. The fitting video will follow in the second part of this article. Watch this space!
BSG Corse brought scooters with overwhelming performance. Vespa Smallframes were those scooters that chased around the circuit with immense revs. These were later joint by the legendary Signore Angelo Zirri and almost the entire Smallframe tuning scene.
Even the greatest events have to come to an end. So at some stage we had to dismantle everything. But luckily we still had a joint tea and nighter with a fantastic view on the mountains left!
Nighter in the mountains in the region of Emilia Romagna
The joint meal and all-nighter took place in an Osteria in the mountains. A fantastic site with view on the lights of Rimini and San Marino in the distance.
Many kind talks, many Italian snacks and some cups of wine later we fell into our beds in the early hours of morning. It was a short night with only a little relaxation. Only several hours later we were meant to get to the next highlight. On the cruise we were able to test the 305cc prototypes for their fitted BGM parts.
All pictures of the first leg of our trip to Italy:
The potential of Smallframe engines has been increasing during the past years and seems to increase even further.
Today you can find levels of performance and torque above 35HP / 30Nm more often. This, in turn, puts more sprain on other parts.
Springs for primary drive have to be stronger
Clutch and primary drive are crucial and highly strained links between crankshaft and drive. Its weakest part are the springs of the jolt damping.
Buy reinforced BGM PRO springs for Vespa Smallframe here These transmit the entire torque to the rear wheel, guarantee a symmetrical power transmission to the gearbox and smoothen the asymmetric flow of the crank drive between the dead centres. Not only in racing heavy crankshafts, lighter flywheels and immense load alterations shorten the tough life of the original springs.
Comparing our springs to a Piaggio spring, you will see that the BGM spring is more elastic and the spring wire offers a larger deviation.
A larger possible deviation and a higher spring constant protect the primary drive of sharp breaking parts, even in toughest conditions.
Due to fitting conditions you cannot simply enlarge the spring to enhance its life span. Therefore we paid attention to use good material. Oteva is a highly robust spring steel, which is used for extremely dynamic loads. Its distinguishing characteristic is its durability in high temperatures during extreme mechanical use. Its surface is shot peened to further enhance durability.
Rimini Lambretta Centre 20th Anniversary Open Day, 25th of April 2015Dean Orton
We are BGM – BGM is a brand of Scooter Center
Of course, Scooter Center also supplies other scooter shops with products. And we do this globally. One of our favourite scooter shops is the Italian RLC – Rimini Lambretta Centre.
BGM Italia
We mainly supply RLC with BGM products and we are proud to have convinced one of the major experts for Lambrettas to sell BGM products in Italy.
The RLC team is specialised in the perfect restoration and conservation of Lambretta scooters. For instance even Vittorio Tessera (Casa Lambretta) gives scooters from his precious Lambretta collection to Rimini Lambretta Centre.
Cyclone5, the 5-speed gearbox, is one example for products developed by RLC. Dean Orton and his team often rediscover extremely rare NOS (New Old Stock) parts or rare spare parts.
20 years Rimini Lambretta Centre
RLC will have a great Open Day to celebrate its 20th anniversary this weekend. Scooter Center / BGM has been invited and, of course, we are glad to come to Rimini to present the most current BGM products and to celebrate together with the RLC team.

The German Scooter Forum (GSF) has voted and we – Scooter Center – have won once more. Thanks to everybody, who took part and voted for us.
We are very proud and take this as additional motivation to continuously drive flat out, never to stop and to continuously strive for perfection. Promise!
One thing is already clear: also in 2015 we have some big surprises up our sleeves, which some of you very probably won’t expect – so watch out!
GSF-Dealer-of-the-year-Award 2014/15
Every year the largest German Vespa and Lambretta Community, with almost 50,000 members, takes a vote to identify the best spare parts dealer. Here the Scooter Center always convinced its customers with service, performance and innovation and was able to win.
No. 1 Scooter Center Cologne with 215 votes = 21.2%
No. 2 FalkR with 161 votes = 16%
No. 3 LTH with 109 votes = 11%
Translated comment of the organiser:
“Dear Shops and Shoppers – The winner of 2014/(15) has been chosen, followed by its fellow shops. The results show: the team of Scooter Center, FalkR and LTH especially convinced their customers. Some years ago I initiated this vote. I’d like to thank approx. 500 members of GSF, which are probably a more or less representative part of the German classic scooter community, for participating the vote. You, the three winners, and all the other dealers and service providers, please continue as you did so far to preserve scootering as something attractive thanks to your friendliness and fairness.”M210 / GSF
We will come up with something in return.
More on this here in our blog shortly…
Since yesterday, the BigBox Sport for Vespa PX 200 is also available again
Shelves were quickly empty, due to the immense success and demand of our Vespa racing exhaust. But we stocked up and since yesterday the BGM PRO BigBox Sport exhaust is available again for Vespa PX200 and Vespa PX 80 – 150.
BGM BigBox Sport was just launched onto the market and was already sold out
We were really astonished: within a very short period of time the new Vespa racing exhaust (BGM1010SP) was already sold out. Due to positive feedback and tests, which have been conducted by several instances, it should have been clear. We are delighted about the immense success of this exhaust – Thank you very much!
BGM BigBox Sport – a wolf in sheep’s clothing
Performance just like a racing exhaust – looks & sound just like a standard exhaust
Order your BigBox Sport hereBGM BigBox Sport is a thoroughbred racing exhaust, which gives a standard looking exhaust, that won’t arouse suspicion. It definitely is an alternative to conspicuous and mainly loud and big expansion exhaust chambers. Its willingness to deliver maximum performance makes it clearly stand out from other box pipes. Designed for performance oriented drivers, who hold an unsuspicious vehicle in high esteem.
bgm BigBox Sport performance chart:
LML150 5 port reed valve engine (reed valve intake) with Quattrini M1X cylinder (undealt) and 1.5mm head spacer (stroke compensation), SI24 carburetor
Need of a high performance engine concept
Just like any good racing exhaust, the sport box needs a high performance engine concept in order to develop full performance. Surrounded by cylinders like the Quattrini M1X and similar, the sport box offers impressing results. It easily supports engine performances above the 25 HP level and pushes with a rich torque. Despite its high top performance the sport box also supports leisure cruising.
Due to the commitment to a high gas flow rate, BigBox Sport is not suitable for standard engines or tame tuning cylinders. It needs a clear and strong pressure impulse in order to breathe life into the big manifold of the Sport Box.
PROS:
Standard looks
Low noise level
Top performance like an expansion exhaust
No performance slump
Broad revs range
Higher top speed
Very unsuspicious
Also fits a Rally/Sprint without modifications
Solid design with clamp screw at the cylinder
Handmade in Europe
CONS:
Not suitable for vehicles with 8 inch wheels (no sufficient ground clearance)
Not suitable for standard engines
To fasten the manifold at the cylinder you need a clamp screw. Compared to loose fastening with an O-ring sealing this results in best stability and prevents damage of the exhaust flange. For best ground clearance you should use a long spacer at the rear shock absorber.
Conclusion: pure understatement. Performance of a racing exhaust, looks and sound like a standard exhaust.

We already started preparations for our stall of Scooter Center and BGM. We are also already looking forward to our joint stall with the Jetsons in Kalkar and to the 25th Silver Special anniversary, where you can win the Lambretta.
As already mentioned before, our BGM parts are used in order to get the technology on a 21st century level. To also assure a visually pleasing look, the Jetsons used their Germany wide network and initiated a nice Lambretta restoration.
Casa Lambretta parts replaced those original parts that needed to be replaced. Lambretta parts in best quality, where the only difference to the original is the Casa Lambretta logo.
See for yourself:
Cleaning the coating
First, the coating of the original paint was removed with acetone. After welding cracks, the ribbing was refinished with a Kraftformer machine. Jetsons charged a real expert in vintage restoration with the sheet metal works. It was Michael of AUTOMAX in Schlangen.
Before cleaning:
During the cleaning of the coating:
After cleaning, sadly the thin ornament line fell victim to acetone.
Metal works fender
After removing the coating, we started the metal works. The fender had several cracks.
Working with a hammer
Michael of AUTOMAX working with a hammer.
Fender ribbing
After welding the cracks, the ribbing was refinished with a Kraftformer machine.
Metal works legshield
The legshield was smoothened with the english wheel.

The Scootershow – our Scooter Center Scooter Customshow – took place on March, 21st 2015. And again we are totally flashed by the amount of passion to scooters. No matter if automatic or classic. Once more, great scooters and great people were part of it. We are already preparing for Scooter Customshow 2016 in Cologne.
The 8th SCOOTERSHOW ’15 saw 150 scooters and 1,500 visitors, exhibitors and sellers from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria, Switzerland and Poland. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Always a clear sight, thanks to patented technology
Pinlock ® is the inventor of the anti-fog helmet visor. This patented technology uses a double visor that traps an air layer, which reliably prevents the helmet visor from fogging. Due to the technology’s success, Shoei, the premium helmet manufacturer, decided to launch a cooperation with Pinlock ®. Shoei helmets have always been very high-quality helmets, now, however, they were upgraded further and always guarantee a clear sight for the driver, even under toughest conditions. Among others the popular helmet series SHOEI NXR will be equipped with these visors:
Cool goggles – SUBZERO goggle with Pinlock® anti-fog technology
The most current highlight of the Dutch producer demonstrates that the great Pinlock ® anti-fog technology can not only be fitted in motorcycle helmets. The visually and functionally superb Subzero Multisport goggles are multifunctional.
These are only some areas of use:
anti-fog skiing goggles
anti-fog snowboarding goggles
mountain biking goggles
sledging goggles
…
The new SUBZERO goggles offer awesome looks – for the person, who wears it and for those watching! That’s why these goggles also cut a fine figure on a Vespa:
The goggles always come with two visors, both equipped with absolute anti-fog visors. These Subzero goggles are delivered with one mirrored and one orange, contrast-enhancing visor including a handy and protective bag.
The mirrored visor offers ideal protection of the eye, in bad viewing conditions the orange glass significantly enhances contrast.
Motor scooter, ski, snowboard, mountainbike…
Highly functional and a great design and flexible in use, PINLOCK SUBZERO is, not only on the slope, highly recommended!
Swing arm Piaggio Maxi Engine Gilera Runner and Co.
Good news for performance fetishists and lovers of Piaggio automatik two-stroke-engines.
For you, we further developed our BGM PRO swing arm to reinforce the engine case, optimized it and have it produced in a new design:
Swing arm BGM PRO Superstrong Piaggio 125-180 cc 2-stroke BGM7900N
The legendary BGM PRO swing arm
This idea originated during the construction phase of our shop demonstrator. A reasonable reinforcement of the engine case was particularly needed for the 50 hp strong twin.
Usage notes
As for the previous version, some things have to be considered in order to link the swing arm to your engine whilst protecting the large, and now rare, Piaggo two-stroke engines:
fits Piaggio 125 -180 engines with disc brake
exhaust support at engine case needs to be adapted
First, the engine case has to be adapted. The easiest way is to “adjust“ the screw, which is screwed through the support from behind, with a gap of 5mm.
For security reasons you should, as a trial, assemble and check, if it runs parallel to the surface at the Vario cover. Shortening by at least 5 mm is usually always necessary. Depending on the combination of assembly parts, the gap can vary and be up to 10 mm wide.
Fastening the rear wheel
The two-rowed self-aligning ball bearing can be fitted at a maximum angle of 5°. The swing arm comes with longer screws to fit the rear wheel. The screws should be fitted with liquid screw locking.
Security advice
The swing arm was produced for race use only.
There are many variations of hubs, rims and engine cases on the market.
Therefore we advise you to thoroughly check if the parts fit before the assembly and finally to very thoroughly assemble the parts.
