Today we had the new Polini 210 cc kit on our dyno. Bast brought his Vespa in for testing. Despite his highly tuned Smallframe and Lambretta scooters, he just purchsed his first Largeframe Vespa. The very soon fitted P200 engine was not was he was looking for to use it for touring and Rally going. So the new Polini was his kit of choice.

There was nothing altered on the P range engine. The 57 mm stroked standard crank and SI24 (re-jetted) left untouched. Nothing was grinded or ported. A new exhaust was fitted. One of the SIP Road ones.

Right out of the box the Polini kit gives suitable port timings for fast road use. We had 123° transfer timing and 171° exhaust timing. The 24° pre blow down timing gives a nice and broad power spread and should result in a nice fuel saving engine.

Upshot: Good priced Plug & Play power for fast road use. And with larger carbs, expansion exhaust system and additional porting and matching of transfers there can be found even more power.

The ever lasting religious war Malossi 211 or Polini 207 or Pinasco 213 in the maximum cc-range of Vespa scooters has received a new argument.

The torque-orientated layout of the Polini 207 with power through the whole rev-range was loved by many.
However it is with all things love, there are days when everything in a partnership is not going the way it should.

Wrong carb setup, ignition faults or general wrong set up of the engine brought the old, cast cylinder to its thermic capabilities, and above in the worst case.
This led to the bad reputation of the eternal heat-seizure, which could only be cured by accurate setting up of all components.

Now Polini have sorted this problem for us and made our live easier, and those of their competitors harder.
The proven design of the Polini 207cc is now crafted in high quality alloy. With a 68.5mm bore and good two ring piston for excellent heat-dissipation and piston-guidance the new cylinder has the perfect thermic basis for race or touring tuning.
Simple with a Sito+ and 26mm SI carburator , or with monster-membran and race exhaust , we are keen on what people will do with this cylinder.

Vespa Smallframe UpgradeAfter the successful bgm Lambretta stator plates, which proved powerful and reliable, and stators for both p-ranges, bgm has directed their attention to the smallframe Vespas.

The newest weapon is the Ignition kit bgm PRO to convert the V50, Primavera, ET3 and early PK models to maintenance free 12 volt electronic ignition.

This gives the most reliable and powerful solution for daily commuting, Rally going or fast road use. Basis for this conversion is the bgm PRO stator HP V2.0 for the Vespa PK XL series w/o battery, which incorporates the proven and powerful Cosa design. In combination with a 1650gr Ducati flywheel it gives reliable tick over and instant acceleration.

The ultra slim BGM AC/DC voltage regulator compliments this kit.
The neat bgm voltage regulator can be used on all Vespa and Lambretta electronic ignitions. It delivers a very steady AC and DC output, and can supply sat navs, mobiles or other electric gimmicks directly. The kit can be easily fitted with standard tools, and all parts can be sourced separately.

In Conjunction with visual artist Christoph Gabler we have produced a high quality paper-calender in lackered silk print.

With the dimensions 32/32cm it fits in every garage, but is cause of its quality, better suited for the living room.

The artist surprised us with his new look on things. Real scooters with scars and history, in surprising and unusual perspectives. Definitely different to the usual stuff.

 

 

On the practical side this calendar contains a survey of 2011 as well, so you can enjoy it right now, and fill in important dates like birthdays and the like.

The power of the newest generation of smallframe cylinders is amazing, and kills most parts of the rest of the engines. The developers at BGM constructed bigger crank webs which are not prone to twisting and cracking, because of a larger overlap and superior material..

In order to fit the larger diameter crank webs (87 mm on the flywheel side and 86 mm on the drive side) you have to machine the casings to 88 mm.

The next innovative feature is the piston rod length which has been increased to 105 mm (8 mm longer than on standard 125 cc Smallframe cranks). The crank is a perfect fit to some of the latest Smallframe tuning kits that are designed to be run with this sort of piston rod

An easy way to use it with every other barrel available, is to fit the 8 mm bgm spacer (BGM0223) and longer cylinder stuts (BGM 0290). Also available as complete kit (7673185).Upshot: a better angle, which is perfect for the life of the big end bearing and reduced friction of the piston in the bore hole.

This results in better power and reduced primary compression, which work well with the modern day exhausts, such as the ones made by manufacturer Ludwig and Scherer, as the port transfers at the casing can be improved and the flow optimized.

Main features are the very strong CNC-maschined Rod, which is superior to most rivals, and the durable ETS spigot on the ignition side, which can be fitted to all V50/90/Primavera engine cases as well, using our special seals and bearings. A perfect solution to cracking tapers and blown ignitions.

 

 

 

 

 


 

And here is another part we were looking for, for a long time.

Crankshaft -BGM Original- Vespa PK125 XL2, ETS125


 

The label BGM is known for high quality scooter products. Crank shafts of BGM work in many tuned road and race engines. With this nice build crank shaft BGM closes the gap for rotary driven smallframe cranks. It is technically orientated on the original Vespa ETS crank shafts, but is supplied with high quality elements, like the overlap against twisting, a well build piston rod with good lubricating holes and strong crank webs. The The PK XL2, ETS 125 has the most solid taper of the Vespa Smallframes. Therefore it is capable to sustain much higher forces. An additional feature is that it can be used with the ultra light flywheels for much improved acceleration and power output.

 

 

 

 

Crankshaft -RACING- Vespa PX 80


And here we have a special solution for the german Vespa PX 80. Italian manufacturers have build a special racing crank to go with the tuning cylinders like the Malossi 139, DR 135 and the likes. Nice quality and functionality.

Just on time fort he 65th birthday of the Vespa, Piaggio has relaunched the reworked P-range series. And the first ones of these have entered the streets.

Apart from the subtle but striking restyling of several body parts there are numerous new accessories available. This will fit to other p-ranges as well, and often are superior in functionality and design to their precessors.

Here are just e fiew that grabbed our attention.

The new cruiser-screen of the official Vespa Series is a real eye-catcher. Build of scratch-resistent methacrylat (EI50) and EU-homologated is delivered with all chrome fittings. Protects the rider from all wind and weather conditions. The screen has less sensitivity to side winds than higher examples and enhances the comfort of your ride. Easy to fit and clean. Perfect for serious touring or the trip to the city Fits all early and new P-Range 80/125/150/200 Series, T5 classic and several LML scooters that have the mirrors attached at the top of the headset. Others must use adapters to fit the mirrors.

 

 

 

 

This new designed original Vespa rack is a real improvement. Due to its increased height it is easier for the following traffic to see the back light, even if there is lots of luggage strapped to the rack. Better visibility is greater safety. Nice chrome compliments the styling and gives the rear passenger a good possibility to hold to the scooter The four point joint gives stability and it can be fixed by non-bike-mechanics as well. The ideal partner for shopping, or surrounding the world. Fits all early and new P-Range 80/125/150/200 Series and several LML scooters.

 

 

 

 

This rear topcase support of the official VespaVintage series is a real gimmick. Originally designed to go with the Vespa 32l Topcase it is also possible to adopt cases from other markes. Even riders who do not appreciate cases at all can enjoy this product. Because it lifts your luggage higher above the backlight than other designs, and the following traffic can see your back light better for safety reasons. Furthermore there is no more rattling, which some of the folding rear carriers are known for. Easy access of the seat lock, even when the carrier is loaded, is another feature. Flowing design which compliments the line of the Vespa, build in chrome. Fits all early and new P-Range 80/125/150/200 Series, T5 Classic and several LML scooters.

A couple of days Japan’s leading scooter magazine SCOOTER DAYS has published an article about a nice joint venture between MB Developments, bgm, KASHIRA products, Taka from lambretta-magazine-japan.net and us. The story started months ago.
Taka will be the leading man for the project. Together with MB Developments and we will supply the parts for the bike. Mainly this is the complete bgm range for Lambretta.
There will be created a bike to show to Japanese scooterists. Everybody will be allowed to ride and use the bike and get a feeling for a bike built from the best parts available. Originally it was planned to convert a Series 2 to something similar like the Rallymaster. Sadly the frame was to rotten and no spare frame easy to get in Japan. So the plan was changed and an officially GP 200 imported to Japan is used now. This had some unique features to satisfy market needs. The headset from the SX range was used for a more 6Ts look. Additionally indicators like on the mid version Serveta and a spare wheel carrier at the rear.
The masterplan is t o give a massive technical upgrade to the bike for ultra reliability. The small engine casings will be equipped with the MBD Racetour kit, bgm 600 mm stroke crank with 110 mm Yamaha con rod, bgm 30 mm PWK carb and Clubman style exhaust. The goal is to get good power, a very wide power spread and ultra low fuel consumption. Therefore the MB reed inlet manifold will be used. For additional reliability the bgm ignition and regulator will be fitted.
For sure chassis and brakes will be upgraded using bgm parts as well. Gadget like Satnav will be powered straight from the DC power output of the regulator. So will the bike be equipped with fuel gauge, rev counter and other nice gimmicks.
After the Japanese disaster the decision was very soon made, that the bike will be auctioned and the money taken spent for the victims.

First reports of friends from Japan mid of last week were not to annoying to us. No one could think of the nightmare that came to Japan at this time. Most of all because earthquakes are seen there on a regular basis.

The massive earthquake with 9.0 force and the devistating Tsunami, which took the coast of the Honshu island, was a heavy blow for us.

After a couple of mails and a much too long wait for the response, we realized that at least our friends in Japan were well. As were the Tokyo based scooter shops like Kashira Products and Lambrettability.

That can’t mislead about the disastrous and horrifying situation in Japan. Our good friend Taka from lambretta-magazine-japan.net reports about a state very similar to war.
