On Saturday our Classic Day started at our premises in Glessen near Cologne. The weather was on our side this time and we could all enjoy the day. There was something going on throughout the day and there were about 120 people coming on theirs Vespas and Lambrettas.

In addition to our parts market, where there one could find the first bargain hunters quite early, our shop was open until 4pm. Shopping was quite busy due to our 10% promotion.

Our dyno was in use as well. Best scoot was a Vespa Smallframe with 37 hp!!!

The Scooter Center Team says a big thanks for an outstanding day. Weather, people, scooters and atmosphere – everything was great. We are proud to support scooterists around the globe for 20 years now and are looking forward to the next 20 years.

On 21st and 22nd September the Scootentole season final race took place at the Magny Cours racetrack.

The Scootentole series consists of 3 race and became quite popular among the ESC drivers.

After the last races of the ESC in Hungary were dominated by heavy rain, we had hoped for a nice, warm weekend.

Unfortunately, the Friday practice in Magny Cours had to be completed in rain as well.

So best choice was the Sava Monsun rain tyre.

As the rain got even heavier on Friday night, all our hopes for a dry race on Saturday were gone. Even the cautiously optimistic online bettingweather service could not really brighten our mood.

On Saturday we were surprised by a drying track which made it possible to drive the first free practice and qualifying.

With the Sava tyres the rather slippery path could be mastered quite well. Nevertheless, the top times were still at 1:10, and once the water vanished from the track, Maik Persch (ESC175) could set the best lap at 1:08.

It remained dry throughout the day, so it was not a hectique tyre change from dry to wet tyres.

So on Saturday we could easily use the Sava Super Soft tyre for the front wheel and the Soft one for the rear.

On these tyres, and despite a very significant departure just followed by a hanging throttle slide, Maik Persch (this year’s champion of the ESC) could win the overall victory in the class C3.

The award ceremony took place in usual high spirits. A nice food buffet, followed by raffle rounded up a nice end to the day.

…and in the paddock the season final was also celebrated sufficiently, the “K8 pub bar class” of the ESC is racing series comprehensive :-)

2012 was a special year, because this year for the first time started the ESC Endurance. In this Long Distance Championship, unlike regular ESC Cup sprint races, teams drive up to 6 hours at a stretch for the win. The Scooter Center Cologne sent the GSF SCK Endurance Team (Andreas Putz, Michael, “maniac” Betz) into the race, which already did a great run during the 24 hour race in Spain and then won one famous triple victory (fastest lap, class victory, total victory).

With correspondingly high expectations about the team went to the first endurance race in Liedolsheim Run’n’Race organized by the under the Stone Heads SC. The team was able to enter the race without any major problems in first place. After the Endurance Run in Wackersdorf had to be canceled due to modest weather, the race at the Harzring track was on the plan, which was organized by Wotox SC. The weather had been mixed, and we experienced a nasty departure, which let us finish the race beyond the podium positions. After some work on our racing machine, the rpm Scootering, metal fight in Belleben was on the plan, which was completed in second despite a leaky head, leaky exhaust flange and a cracked reed valve. Cursed with these defects, the engine deserved a complete overhaul. Thanks to this extra work the engine lasted all races of the season including the 24h race unrevised. With the newly revised work unit, we met for the season finale at the ‘Holidays in Hungary’, which was organized by the GOA SC. At the beginning of the race we were still on a hard-fought first place, but we lost valuable time due to a brake defect and an unreliable spark plug. Equipped with a strategic desire to win and with fantastic weather, we secured second place in Hungary, which has brought us the victory to win the first place in the ESC Endurance Championship!

At this point, many thanks to our guest drivers Benedikt Neuberger, Robert Leibfarth und Jens Fischer…Great work guys, another job well done!

After 2 weeks the Scooter Center van finally returned from the UK road trip. Last stop was the Mersea Island rally which was celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Here again, we have taken the chance to show our new bgm products along with our Generation XI and our bgm testbike.

It was a great trip to the UK and we have met many like-minded people and did have some inspiring converstaions. It was good to see that our products and our 2 scooters were acknowledged abroad. The Scooter Center team say thank you to everyone involved and we are really looking forward to meet you again in 2013. Scoot safe.

Last weekend we have been to the Duisburg Meiderich Rally. Great weather with lots of sunshine were just 2 reasons why nearly 160 scooterist came to the Rhur Urban Area. We started our tour at our Shop in Bergheim near Cologne. Next stop was the old town of Düsseldorf where we met a few of the local scooterists from the Düsselvespen . Here you can find a Video of the departure in Düsseldorf.

The location was great. A big meadow with plenty of space for scooters and tents.

A Nighter room was there as well which was decorated in classic atmosphere. Good music and plenty of drinks rounded it all up.

In the afternoon a ridout through the suburbs of Duisburg was organised. With 160 scooterists it was a really fantastic rideout which everyone enjoyed. A special was crossing the river Rhine by ferry. But due to the amount of scooterists the ferry had to take 3 turns to get everyone on the other side. :-)

24h der Schaltrollerfreunde Meiderich

It was a really great event and we are looking forward to next year to see you all again at the Meidericher SC rideout.

A few days before we started to the Isle of Wight and Mersae Island scooter Rallys we have lost the GENERATION XI engine cover. Damn! An airbrushed engine cover for our 20th anniversary shop demonstrator project.

Not a very nice feeling to have this lost while the little racer was thrashed thru open country roads. Especially as we had it registered for the Customshow at the Isle of Wight. But with the building of the GENEARTION XI in record time earlier this year and wth the reputation of being Germany’s fastest mail order specialist for scooter spare and tuning parts, we were surethat we can manage it to get it back.

First of all we called Pfeili who did the marvellous paint job. He said no problem, send it over. To save time with sending things around, we asked another friend there in Austria. And our mate Stoffi brought a side cover over to Pfeili’s paint shop.

This morning the freshly brushed side cover turned up here at SCOOTER CENTER. Thanks to long year’s customer and well known face in the Scooter Scene Christian the side cover is now on it’s way to Aachen. From there it will head forward to the Isle of Wight! Some times things can’t work out better!

THANKS PFEILI, THANKS STOFFI and THANKS CHRISTIAN!!!

The Scooter Center Team is on the way to the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally. Every August, thousands of vintage scooters (and their owners!) enjoy a the Isle of Wight National Scooter Rally. It’s quite a sight to see when they all come over on the ferries and pour into Ryde, where the rally weekend is based. From Ryde, the scooters ride out around the island… wherever you are on the Isle of Wight that weekend you are likely to come across at least a few of these classic scooters! We have our SCK Demonstrator and our bgm Testbike with us and some chosen products like the bgm PRO SC shock absorber, the bgm ignition plate and the new bgm CDI. Dont forget to book your test ride. Everything is packed and we are now ready to go. After the Isle of Wight run we are moving on to the Mersea Island Rally. This year the Mersea Island Rally is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. We are looking forward to meet you on the ground. The Scooter Center Team wishes everyone some great days. Be there or be square.

Finally the new Qattrini C1 Smallframe Engine Casings are available.
For all tuning scooterists out there a must-have.

In the past few years the Smallframe tuning become more and more versile.
Smallframe engines with more than 40hp are no longer unique nowadays. The original Piaggio engine casings were produced for power around 10hp. The power given through cylinder kits like Parmakit, Falc or Qattrini are just too much for the original casings.

Quattrini has met demands and developed a very sophisticated engine housing..

We are going to show you the new features below.

The first eye-catching feature is the adapter for a mechanical water pump to install water-cooled cylinders.
If you make use of the classical forced air cooling, Quattrini also included an aluminum plug to close the bore of the pump.

The area around the floating ports and the cylinder base is made considerably more massive in order to prevent casing failure or cracks.

Quattrini already spindled the cylinder base to 64.8 mm diameter and 17.5 mm deep.
Including a range up to 21mm deep, which is suitable for the original spindled cylinder base diameter.

The area around the engine mount is adjusted so that you can use Tyres in the dimension of 3.50×10.

To compensate the weakening of the engine mount through the heel, this was reinforced with 4 solid ribs.

The two housing halves are connected with two centre pins and M6 screws, which will prevent the mounting with separate nuts. Because of the cast membrane and the lack of box centered on the crankcase cover gasket also eliminates the paper based engine seal. Common practice today is to use sealant in order to put the engine together sealant. We recommend from experience Dirko HT.

Condition as supplied to customers the casings are ready to use with direct intake cylinders. Additionally Quattrini also designed a box for all friends of membrane intake.
The connection to the crankcase must be machined if required, however, on its own power out.

Unfortunately, until now it is not absolutely clear which membrane can be used.
Therefore, we have already taken care of a solution and started to adjust aRD350 and V-Force³ Membrane.

Regarding the gear shift Quattrini stayed with the good old 2 cable technique.

The heart of the whole new design is based on the 48mm broadend crank shaft with 51mm rod.
This measure ensures that the press dimension of crank pin increases significantly
and the crankshaft is turning resistance in terms of not to being twisted.
The high quality 102mm conrod round off the overall good impression. The dimension of the center crankshaft bearing and cylinder base sealing is 69mm and is thus provided for the use of 102mm connecting rod.

As crankshaft bearings we are using 6304TN9C4 on both sides.
It is also conceivable to mount a NU205 on the generator side, but we do not recommend it.

The crankcase is additionally sealed with 2 oil seals from both sides with the dimensions 20x35x7. Here we can offer youseals in good old FPM-Quality.

Depending on the ignition used for this engine, a whole for the cable set must be made in the dynamo casing.

The air channel has been changed already for the use of Race Exhaust.

After the spectacular performance of the Quattrini engine casings at the start of the ESC season in Mirecourt, we are curious to see who is using them first.

This year the annual Euro Lambretta took place in Wachtebeke near Gent in Belgium. The venue was an island in the middle of a pond. It was absolutely fantastic.

Around 1.200 scooterists came to the event and made it a really special weekend. The program was well organized and there were many ride outs which we all enjoyed a lot.

We brought our bgm test bike and our 20th Anniversary shop demonstrator with us. Everyone had the opportunity to test our new designed bgm Lambretta with 22.5hp. We also offered spare parts from our shop.

It was a really great event and the Scooter Center team really enjoyed it. We hope to see you all next year at the Euro Lambretta in Avignon, France.

Thanks to the Vespanest Aachen team for the nice rideout last Saturday. We are hoping to see more of these events in the future.

Vespanest Aachen Season Opening

Day 3 and 4 led our team from Bordeaux to the surfing paradise Hossegor at the Atlantic coast in France. A nice change for the team with outstanding weather.

From here the team set their way to Spain. A scenic drive across the Pyrenees and the first 1600km seem to come to an end.

After leaving the Pyrenees behind they headed straight down to Zaragosa.

2 days earlier than expected our road trip heroes arrived at the Circuit ” Internacional de Zuera”. Now let’s hope that the organizers will come as well ;-)

We wish our team good luck at the 24h race and hope the trip home will be as good as this one.

Saturday was finally there and our Classic Day could start. Despite the ugly weather there will still many scooterists coming to see us.

The spare part market, 10% discount in our shop and our test rig were entertainment enough to attract around 200 people.

The first bargains were already made half an hour before the official start of our Classic Day. Drinks and food were all offered for just 1€. It was really nice.

Many well know faces from the local Vespa and Lambretta scene were there as well.

We were really delighted to have you there and hope to see you on our next Event as well.

The European Scooter Challenge (ESC) is just about to start. New engines and new scooters will be seen across the race tracks in Germany, France, Austria and Hungary.

We just had a typical K1 engine on our test rig recently which we tested for its performance and functioning.

According to the ESC rules, the stroke is limited to 51mm. Therefore, a bgm crankshaft with 51mm stroke and 105mm rod is used.

The engine is running on a Polini Evo cylinder with 2 flaps 0.35mm carbon material converted Polini membrane and a Strohspeed intake socket. A 33 Keihin carburetor is injecting the 2stroke petrol. In order to keep the crankcase clean, the air is sucked through a Marchald air filter. The outstanding air flow rate of Marchald filters and the resulting low power dissipation make this road-proven filter very interesting for racing engines.

A Vespatronic ignition set at 24°-16° BTDC makes it smooth.

The K1 engine is fitted with a Franz exhaust. Good torque values and moderate revs make this exhaust interesting for the round circuits.

The gerated power is currently supported by a XL2 clutch in combination with a DRT auxiliary shaft. More on this later. Now let’s discuss the test rig curve:

All in all it is a typical Franz engine. Frequency range starts between 5500 and 6000 rev/min, peak at 9000 rev/min.

11hp at 6000rev/min uphill makes this setup really nice to drive.

With more than 20hp from 7300 to 9700 rev/min it is possible to drive within the power band due to the DRT auxiliary shaft.

Now come the crucial point, the clutch is not the best choice for this power range. Nearly 20NM are showing us the limits of a XL2 clutch. So we have to reopen the casings and insert a Hartz4 clutch.

Maybe this will change something regarding power and torque.

Even if a non-slip clutch does not increase any further, then at least the wear out is halted. A slipping clutch won’t last many laps on the racing track. Even on the road this circumstance can lead to consequential damages.

Maybe we will find enough time to make a Portmap of the cylinder. Let’s see.

Last Saturday the Niederrunners SC in Moers organised their 2nd Vespa and Lambretta Customshow. Venue was again the Bollwerk 107 in close by Moers central station.

Good weather and great food and drinks made this event fantastic. A jumping castle for the kids and lots of things to discover attracted also many young families. Lots of things to see for our small guest, for example one of the exhibited scoters was a “Sponge Bob” memory scoot which brought a smile on the kids’ faces.

Many visitors came also with their own scooter and one was able to count around 120 kickstart scooters.

We are looking forward to the 3rd show next year and want to thank the SC in Moers for a great day.
