Suddenly there is a lot of noise at the Zülpicher Platz, a square in Cologne. St. Nicholas’ (ok, we will be more precise: rather Santa Clauses) on scooters are riding the streets of Cologne honking. Did this seasonal Vespa gang also attract your attention on St. Nicholas day? We will provide some background information: http://goo.gl/txGroz (Video: mik)
#VespaBabbo Posted by KSTA, a local daily newspaper, on Saturday 6th of December 2014
“VespaBabbo” is the flash mob for St. Nicholas! Around 100 Vespisti in Christmassy dresses with Vespas decorated with colours and glitter just like a Christmas bauble. Scooterists dressed up like this cruise the streets of Cologne – from Christmas market to Christmas market and through the city centre of Cologne.
Italian tradition: “Babbo” is the Italian St. Nicholas. This tradition of riding through the city in a St. Nicholas or Santa Claus costume during Advent is an old tradition in Italy, which fills young and old spectators with enthusiasm. Of course this is best on a VESPA

St. Nicholas in Cologne… traditionally with the “VespaBabbo”**… A Christmas corso with fitting costumes passing the most beautiful Christmas markets of Cologne finishing off with a glühwein/ hot punch at “Piazza Rudolfo”. Same motto as last time: Having fun and spreading the joy of Christmas in the City! :-)
Meeting point
Gathering again at the Deutz fairground (shores of the Rhine, central in between the bridges Deutzer Brücke and Severinsbrücke, Deutzer Werft)
Participation ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY in a Santa Claus, St. Nicholas or angel costume! Feel free to “dress” your Vespa (classic/modern) accordingly! Of course the track is suitable for 50 cc scooters, mainly within the city of Cologne and will take approx. 1 1/2 – 2 hours.
Donations for the good cause
We are celebration the season of giving. Therefore there will be a collection of voluntary (!) donations at the starting point, which will be given to charity.
Necessary information:
Taking part is at own risk.
You have to adhere to road traffic regulations.
Drinking glühwein before or during the corso is to be avoided.
The corso will only take place if the weather is fine and streets are free (no black ice, layer of snow or heavy snow fall).
** …”Babbo” is the Italian version of St. Nicholas. The tradition of riding through the city in a St. Nicholas or Santa Claus costume during Advent is an old tradition in Italy. Similar corsos exist everywhere by now: in Strasbourg… Paris has experienced it, Cardiff was amazed, Manfredonia, Sassari, Roma and Foggia in Italy are passionate about it, cheering in Bangkok and in Portuguese Gaia – corsos even in wintry Kempten/Allgäu or in the northern and wet Hamburg… and now once again in Cologne! See you on December 5, 2015!

Legendary parts fair for Vintage scooters, bikes, pushbikes and cars in Italy
From the 6th to 8th of November one of Italy’s Mostra Scambio took place in Novegro, Milan. Advertised as market for cars, scooters, bikes, pushbikes and the respective accessories, it was and is even more nowadays heavily focused on Lambretta and Vespa spares and scooters. The 64th Mostra Scambio in Novegro brought along summer like temperatures and heavy sunshine during the complete weekend.
Beside the bargains everyone is looking for, the Italian markets convince with the very special Italian atmosphere. And a very broad selection of everything related to by-gone times. Especially all the Lambretta and Vespa afficinados are pleased by the collector’s items, spares and accessories.
The dealers focused on Lambretta or Vespa know what they are selling and the prices are okay, but not real bargains. Very often they apologized for the asked price and added that it is Lambretta or Vespa and hence the high asking price. But once you find the dealers that have a bit from everything and that are only roughly in the knowledge of the things they are selling, the chances are there to have the desired bargain.
Mostra Scambio in Germany
If you are looking for a small scale parts fair in Germany, you have to come over on the 9th of April for Cologne’s Customshow with Vespa and Lambretta parts fairt.

The official announcement was made 2 years ago: the Vespa World Days 2017 will be in Germany – more specifically in Celle.
But where is Celle and who are the Celle Scooterists?
Celle in Lower Saxony in the beautiful Lüneburg Heath
Celle is located in Lower Saxony, about 50km north of Hanover and has a population of ca. 70,000 people. The town lies on the banks of the river Aller and is the southern gateway to the Lüneburg Heath. The castle and the picturesque old town centre with over 400 timber-framed houses, make Celle one of the most remarkable towns on the German “timber-framed” road.
The Lüneburg heath stretches from Lüneburg in the north to Celle in the south. The Südheide nature park covers an area of about 500km². Woodlands and heathland, remnants from the middle ages, are now protected as a nature reserve. Well known in the region is the Heidschnucke, a moorland sheep, which lives from the local heather. The perfect destination for a group excursion!
Great starting point for further ride outs
Celle is the perfect base for various excursions, the local roads perfect for Vespa trips. Within a 100 km drive a variety of destinations can be reached. These include: Steinhuder Meer, northern Germany’s largest lake with a circumference of 24 km. Hannover, Lower Saxony’s capital. The Deister hills with their wide variety of flora and fauna.
Vespa Club Celle
The Vespa Club in Celle, founded in 1986, is an active group of passionate Vespa drivers, who are known for combining this passion for Vespas with the importance of family and community. The club organizes regular activities, highlighting in August with its annual “Heidetreffen” in nearby Walle. This scooter rally is one of the largest in Germany, with its reputation of bringing together scooter drivers of all generations and backgrounds as well as being planned with families in mind.

Scooter Center Vespa and Lambretta Classic Day 2015
Many thanks go to the many visitors of our Classic Day 2015. The sweet smell of two stroke engines still lingers around the Scooter Center. You really gave our dynamometer some stick. The waiting queue seemed to be endless.
The weather was fine, all sausages were being eaten, the refrigerator truck is empty and we have fewer products in the remaining stock. Which means: you are satisfied and happy – and many of you went home with a great bargain. The 10% discount in the store and our Scootershop was, of course, also a winner.
There will be even more private booths next year – so please make a note: Classic Day 2016 with large market for Vespa and Lambretta parts.
It was a really great day. We are very happy to have such great and loyal customers!

BGM PRO Vespa shock absorbers successful in ASCC race!
Just as we do for our Scooter Customshow, Austrians also cooperate: ASCC – Austrian Scooter Challenge Cup – is Austria’s racing series for classic scooters, automatic scooters and electric scooters.
Every season consists of seven races with two runs each. At the end the 2 worst race day results are subtracted.
Successful with products of Scooter Center and BGM
Lukas Schossmann is the big surprise of this season. As member of the sQooter racing team he already won 4 races. The team bets on many tuning parts by Scooter Center Cologne. Quattrini engine with M1L-60 cylinder and crankshaft with 51mm stroke. Suspension: BGM Pro shock absorber for Vespa PK front and rear. The braking system with a radial brake master cylinder in front is also made by BGM.
Only 5 Euros shipping fee to Austria
Scooter Center delivers very quickly via UPS and DHL for 5 Euros shipping fees to Austria – up to 31kg, you can order a lot.
ASCC – innovative and modern scooter racing series in Austria
ASCC supports trying well known and new products during training. Thus enabeling the drivers to rent and try suspension for instance. Many racers, however, also install these products in their street scooters and recommend these products to friends and family.
The organisation team of ASCC did not spare any efforts and heavily invested in season 2015. They now own a timekeeping device and from race day #2 (25th of April in Greinbach) onwards all races will be documented via MyLaps Live-Timing. This is the next generation of timekeeping with live-app on smart-phone and tablet, live-timing online and on screens at site, as well as offering various information to displays of the drivers. You can find racing results on www.ascc.at or on www.mylaps.com (choose Austria in “all countries”).
1st race day in Tulln. A raging success
Waiting has an end on the 11th of April 2015: the first race of the new season was about to start. So were 23 scooterists and several thousand spectators and fans who could not wait to see the start of the first race in 2015. At the same time, a motorbike fair (the largest in Austria in 2015) offers the possibility to present ASCC, the teams and oneself to an interested audience. What happened?
Many spectators were there on Saturday morning to see the qualifying. The weather was perfect. Drivers were motivated. And the perfect surprise: Newcomer Lukas Schossmann of team sQooter.com won the pole position with a lap time of 22.8sec. Thomas Lukaseder of GP-one started from position 2 and Thomas Prasch, the overall winner of 2014 of the Horny-Hornets, started from 3.
The first race started at 2 pm and took, like any other ASCC race, 15min + 2 laps. The track turned out to be rather slow, narrow and highly selective. Therefore many drivers fell and there were many defects, luckily, nothing was really bad though. Lukas Schossmann, the surprise, didn’t have any difficulty and celebrated his first win. Thomas Prasch finished 2nd and Christoph Lafer 3rd. Organizer Ron: “We knew in advance about the narrow and slow track. But all the racers were fair.”
Race 2 saw an even larger audience, which witnessed more race-action and exciting fights for the lead. Lap times were tight, the lead changed, drivers were lapped. All the drivers were convinced: “Tull was awesome. And a large audience, cool.” Schossmann and his BGM PRO Vespa suspension also finished first in race 2, in front if Prasch and Kirchhofer.
Race day 2: Greinbach All or nothing!
All the racers of ASCC agree: “All or nothing!” is the slogan for the track of PS-Racing Center in Greinbach. Either you pull through the long high speed bend (more than 100km/h), don’t care about the bumps at its end and perfectly meet all the load alterations or you loose.
And this happened on race day #2 on April, 25th 2015: only those racers without fears and with the most experience reached for the podium. Gerhard Konrad, local hero and member of HG-Racingteam, was forced to quit early (damage on a cylinder during training). This paved the way for the 3 best racers of the season: Lukas Schossmann, Thomas Prasch and Rainer Kirchhofer. Christopf Lafer of the VorResoSchalter team surprisingly put pressure on them and even finished third in the second run.
Schossmann and Prasch battled for the lead for some rounds, which were the most exciting scenes of the day. Due to a badly adjusted clutch, Schossmann lost his pole-position right away. But he won the race in front of Prasch and Kirchhofer. Schossmann and his BGM shock absorbers gained another full 25 points, in front of Prasch on two and Christoph Lafer on three.

Teste Cromate S.C., the local Lambretta Club, organised an awesome ride out in the soft hills in the region of Emilia Romagna on Sunday as a side program to the Rimini Lambretta Centre Open Day.
Entire video
You can find the video of the entire ride out beginning at the stop at Europlastsucci with GPS – measured speed display. Enjoy:
Yummy stopover
In a well organised corso of about 50 Lambrettas we reached our first interim goal after a few kilometres: Europlastsucci. An old customer and manufacturer of GRP frame sections and further Lambretta specialities.
In order to regain strength for the rest of our ride out and as as mental preparation for lunch we have an Aperitivo. After adjusting the tick-over rpm with Prosecco and other non-liquid refreshments we leave the city and cross the mountains in a great track.
Lambretta BSG Corse with 45HP and 305cc
Of course we have already had the opportunity to drive many extreme scooters. But Philipp’s scooter for the corso was a doozie:
BSG Corse Lambretta with 305cc cubic capacity and performance of more than 50 HP. The most violent we ever rode. CNC – engine block milled from one single piece, 305cc BSG Corse cylinder, Cyclone5 5 speed gearbox and BGM PRO Superstrong clutch. This monster has more than 50 HP. The demonstrator was downsized from 51HP to 45HP via ignition for the RLC Open Day.
First impression:
The beast has instant throttle control and within a blink of the eye you exceeded 100km/h. Thanks to BGM PRO SUPERSTRONG clutch, switching gears is clear, easy and very smooth, the 5 speed gearbox perfectly transferred. Power without limits and pressure in every gear.
Lambretta with a high amount of performance
The CNC engine has a crankshaft with wide crank webs. In order to securely transfer the performance of the 305cc cylinders to the street, the proven components BGM PRO shock absorbers and BGM silent blocks are used for the wheel suspension. Due to the enormous cubic capacity the exhaust is large. However its distance to the ground is sufficient for it to not put down on the street, even in hairpin bends. A vehicle of such a high performance also needs a strong braking system. RLC uses a a MMW disc brake.
There is a high amount of performance in this engine, so it doesn’t come unexpected that the frame hits its limits, since the original engine offers only a fifth of performance when being compared to the BSG Corse engine
Thanks to Dean Orton for this amazing experience! And thanks to Teste Cromate S.C. for this beautiful day!
Scooter Center trip to Italy – Part 1 Rimini Lambretta Centre
The Scooter Center-Team on a trip to Italy: Last weekend Oliver, Philipp and Heiko started their trip to Italy. They had a tight schedule, but the long way had to pay off: during the weekend they covered more than 3,000 km.
Stops during their trip to Italy:
Rimini Lambretta Centre 20th Anniversary Open Day / Rimini
Rimini Lambretta Centre 20th Anniversary Open Day / Rimini
Following in the tracks of the history of Scooter Center by the Lago di Garda
Video of the first leg
Lake Garda was the first interim target. We visited old friends, enjoyed Italy and wallowed in memories. In its 23 years of the history of Scooter Center Lake Garda plays a crucial role.
Back then, Oliver Kluger bought the very first scooter for Scooter Center and transported it to Germany. The Scooter was a Vespa Rally TS 125. Later, the Vespa was processed in Cologne and resold to Volker, who is still driving it today. He was our first customer and naturally sticks to us. You rather know us for a quick delivery of spare and tuning parts for scooters. However, we currently have several used Vespa scooters on offer.
The night was short and the journey continued early on Saturday morning, heading to Rimini. The track to travel sounds like music to our ears: “Verona, Mantova, Modena, Bologna, Imola, Rimini”. Our anticipation grows, the closer we get to our destination.
The 5 speed Lambretta gearbox is more than a mere part of a scooter to Dean. You know this once you saw the CYCLONE 5 tattoo on his forearm. We mainly supply BGM products to RLC, which are used for their restorations. Lambretta restorations are the main business of Dean Orton and his team. RLC loves and lives Lambretta. Overwhelming Lambretta scooters are created in an impressive garage. Our anticipation and expectations were immense and we should not be disappointed.
Rimini in the region of Emilia Romagna
“Rimini: the Adriatic, centre of beach tourism – a seaside resort with a long tradition, beach, sun, sea.” But we had more important things to do! Our destination was the Zona Industriale: The 20th anniversary and Open Day of Rimini Lambretta Centre.
After a heart warming welcome by many old friends, we started to put up our stall. This was quickly accomplished, since Philipp had sent the products we wanted to display to a wrong address… :-) Luckily we were allowed to display products from the RLC stocks.
Rimini Lambretta Centre Open Day
The grounds around the RLC were quickly filled with mainly Italian and English Lambrettisti. There were overall 500 visitors with about 120 Lambrettas and only a handful of Vespas.
Dean really dished up for the 20th anniversary of RLC. Entering the shop you were welcomed by a world record Lambretta: The fully faired Lambretta that broke the 200 km/h limit on August 8th, 1951. Romolo Ferri set the world record on a motorway that was blocked from traffic between Ingolstadt and Munich. The mechanically supercharged 125cc engine is told to have had about 21 HP.
A huge transportable pizzeria supplied finest specialities from the region including sufficient wine, water, beer and coffee.
Overwhelming Lambretta test drive
RLC had managed to have a circuit blocked from traffic, so that you were able to test drive the scooters within the industrial estate.
Alongside scooters, which have been restored by RLC, there were mainly scooters from the Casa Lambretta collection available for test rides. The two Lambretta Innocenti two-cylinder prototypes were at the centre of attention. In the past months these were restored by RLC for Vittorio Tessera. The June edition of Scooteringwill present the restoration of the interior of the engines. We also did a test ride on the Innocenti two-cylinder prototypes. We can only say: Too sad they didn’t make it into serial production.
Lambretta with 305cc and 50HP
305cc and more than 50HP – the most violent scooter we ever rode: BSG CasaPerformance 305cc prototype. CNC engine block with 305cc BSG cylinder, Cyclone5 5 speed gearbox and BGM PRO Superstrong clutch. This monster has more than 50 HP. The Lambretta’s programmable ignition was downsized to 45 HP for the test drives. On our cruise on Sunday we were able to extensively test it. The fitting video will follow in the second part of this article. Watch this space!
BSG Corse brought scooters with overwhelming performance. Vespa Smallframes were those scooters that chased around the circuit with immense revs. These were later joint by the legendary Signore Angelo Zirri and almost the entire Smallframe tuning scene.
Even the greatest events have to come to an end. So at some stage we had to dismantle everything. But luckily we still had a joint tea and nighter with a fantastic view on the mountains left!
Nighter in the mountains in the region of Emilia Romagna
The joint meal and all-nighter took place in an Osteria in the mountains. A fantastic site with view on the lights of Rimini and San Marino in the distance.
Many kind talks, many Italian snacks and some cups of wine later we fell into our beds in the early hours of morning. It was a short night with only a little relaxation. Only several hours later we were meant to get to the next highlight. On the cruise we were able to test the 305cc prototypes for their fitted BGM parts.
All pictures of the first leg of our trip to Italy:
On April, 18th 2015 the AVR – Altblech Vespa Ruhrgebiet, a local scooter club, organizes its season opening in Essen.
Just as for the season closing 2014 last year, the entire proceeds will be donated to a social organisation. Last year, 1,050 Euros were donated to the Kinderhospiz Regenbogenland, a children’s hospice, in Düsseldorf.
This year’s donations will go to Friedensdorf in Oberhausen, which flies in children from war or crisis areas and then provides medical care. This association is merely funded by donations, without contributions by the state. Therefore every Euro counts!
Agenda:
11 am start
1 pm auction
2 pm official end
The event begins at 11 am. It officially ends at 2 pm.
At 1 pm there will be an auction of awesome, astounding things! Furthermore there will be a raffle with more than 100 prices (no blanks).
Vibrant classic scooter community in the Ruhr district
Many drivers, but also clubs from the region are supporting the AVR. Amongst others,
Schaltroller Freunde Meiderich from Duisburg,
Vesparados from Dortmund,
Vespartisanen from Bochum,
Scooterboys Gelsenkirchen and
Düsselvespen
will take part in the event. You see, the classic scooter community in the Ruhr district is vibrant and active! Scooter Center supports the season opening in Essen! So raid your piggy bank and support the AVR in Essen.
