Shock absorber with outer reservoir

The outer reservoir of the shock absorber increases the compensation volume and therefore it offers a much better response. Also the damping adjusting range has been increased.
The bgm PRO SC Competition shock absorber has a modified basic set-up and hence it can also be perfectly used in combination with rigid sport springs.

The compression and rebound adjustment prevents the diving effect or the rapid extension when wheels pass over bumps.

As a result, this shock absorber is also perfect for more powerful vehicles.
The wide range of damping adjustments allows you to use this shock absorber also in combination with a standard spring and with the right damping adjustment you can still have a comfortable ride.

The new shock absorber also fits 8 and 10 inch wheels

Thanks to the optimised size, 165mm, this shock absorber perfectly fits also all 8-inch wheel models with no need to preload the spring or change the inclination of the fork link.

When mounted, the outer reservoir is covered by the mudguard and the front side of the Vespa keeps therefore its genuine look.

Like for the F16 Sport series, also this shock absorber is made of aluminium with hard-anodised finish, available in black and silver.

Rear shock absorber for Vespa Wideframe

The tuning of Vespa Wideframe models (e.g. “Faro Basso” (rod models), Vespa GS3 or ACMA) is becoming increasingly popular. Also Italian tuning companies offer now tuning parts like Wideframe cylinder. For a safer drive we have developed a shock absorber with certification of TÜV-Rheinland.

BGM Pro SC SPORT shock absorber for Vespa Wideframe

The BGM Pro SC SPORT rear shock absorber for Vespa Wideframe fits the following models: Vespa 125 VN1T/ VN2T/ ACMA / VL / VB1 /VD / VGL1 / Vespa GS …

Sportive, comfortable, adjustable and with homologation

The bgm PRO shock absorbers have factory pre-configured damping and stepless adjustable spring preload. Individually adjustable: the pre-load of this rear shock absorber is stepless adustable.

The bmg PRO SPORT perfectly replaces the genuine shock absorber of all Wideframe models from 1955 onwards. For models until year of construction 1954 the springs and the shock absorbers are separated. A remedy here is the upper mounting bracket of the later models. The Vespa Wideframe mounting is available separately and therefore the bgm PRO shock absorber can also be mounted on scooters before 1955. The item includes two adapters (M8 and M9) which can be used accordingly on the respective models. Moreover, the shock absorber is height-adjustable for a length of 385 – 420mm.

HARMONIOUS

The BGM Pro SC SPORT shock absorber for Vespa Wideframe has been developed for the sports ride on the road, the specific pre-configured damping and spring rate make this shock absorber ideal for a sporty ride as well as for a daily use.

DIRECT

The BGM Pro SC SPORT shock absorber reduces the typical diving effect when braking, as well as the swaying movement along the longitudinal axis when accelerating. The smoothness and the sportive handling ensure a comfortable and safe ride.

APPROVED FOR USE ON PUBLIC ROADS

The BGM Pro SC SPORT shock absorbers have a KBA certification from the German federal office for motor vehicles and ABE homologation.

TECHNOLOGY

The SPORT series have inherited its technologic features from the BGM Pro SC COMPETITION shock absorbers: the SPORT version has therefore the same solid piston rod with 12,5mm diameter as well as a corrosion resistant aluminium body with hard-anodised coating and in matt black.

CONCLUSION

Sporty and comfortable shock absorber with homologation for use on public roads and unrivalled cost-benefit ratio!

Air intake hose / Ansaugschlauch bgm PRO Lambretta Keihin & DellOrto

Air filter box or foam air filter

The connection size on the side of the air filter is equal to 42 mm so that you can use the intake hose either with the genuine air filter box or with a foam air filter.

1,3 HP more power

The chart of our test shows the difference between the standard Lambretta dl/GP air intake hose and the bgm intake hose. The comparison was made using the following parts:

Increased start-up performance

Another significant advantage of the bgm PRO air intake hose is the drain system at the bottom of the intake hose: the fluid expelled from the carburettor does not accumulate in the hose and this prevents the idle speed system from clogging.

New brake levers for Vespa – Installation guide Vespa GT / GTS

New for Vespa GT / GTS: BGM brake levers for all Vespa GT, GTL, GTS models with a HengTong brake system. This CNC machined lever in high-strength aluminium is adjustable in 6 positions.

The lever is provided with a span adjuster on the lower side which enables you to tailor the lever length in order to achieve the most comfortable position and a perfect grip.

The lever is made up of two parts and it folds up in the event of a fall reducing therefore the risk of breaking.

The foldable design of this lever is ideal if, for instance, you park your scooter in a small garage.

How to mount Vespa brake levers

Tools for mounting brake levers:

  • Allen key 2,5mm
  • combination wrench or box spanner SW10
  • slot screw driver, size 2-3
  • slot screw driver, size 5
  • Torx key TX25
  • two hands, right and left, ideally with only one thumb on each hand!
  • open-end wrench SW17 (may vary depending on the model of the mirror)

Preparation

In order to have an easier access to the brake master cylinder, it’s necessary to take off the front headset cover. If you also have a windscreen remove this first. Under the rubber grommet and the master cylinder cover you’ll find the counternuts for the tightening of the mirrors.

The screw of the master cylinder cover can be removed with an Allen key 2,5mm from the front side. After wiggling the cover loose forwards and upwards, the counternut of the mirror is easily accessible and can be taken off with an open-end wrench SW 17.

Then you can turn the mirror arm anticlockwise.

Both mirror arms have a right-hand thread. To tighten the mirror arm turn it clockwise, to loose the arm turn it anticlockwise. In the lower part of the headset cover there are three screws: on the right and left side the screws are accessible from the rear side,

while the third screw is accessible from the front side, under the headlight.

First unscrew all the three screws with a cross slot screwdriver PH2 and then release the retaining clips. These plastic clips are not visible from outside, but accessible from the inspection ports one the left and on right side. Remove carefully the clip with a slot screw driver.

Another plastic clip is placed under the headset cover, in the middle. You can loose it carefully with a thin slot screw driver.

The front headset cover can be removed easily if the front cover has already been taken off. The front cover is fixed with a torx screw (TX) hidden behind the Piaggio logo. On the right side of the logo there’s a small gap, pull out the logo from that side by using a thin slot screw driver.

Under the logo you’ll find the only screw of the front cover which can be loosed and removed with a TX25 torx key.

The front cover can be removed by wiggling it loose forwards and upwards. This way you can push the front headset cover upwards in order to loose the retaining clips of the front cover. When the front cover has been removed, you can wiggle the front headset cover forwards and upwards and finally take it off.

Unplug the electrical connections and the cover can be removed completely

How to replace Vespa brake levers

In order to take off the genuine brake levers, remove the counternut under the brake lever support with a combination wrench or box spanner SW10.

Then loose the guide bolt, to which the brake lever is fitted, with a wider slot screw driver (min. S5.5).

Pull out the bolt carefully and hold the brake lever.

For the mounting and positioning of the brake lever there are two washers. Please make sure you don’t lose them when you disassembly the levers.

You’ll need the two washers again when you fit the BGM PRO brake levers. For a trouble-free mounting and for an easy movement of the lever we’ll grease the two washers in order to enable the correct positioning of the lever.

For an easy mounting of the lever on the right side of the headset you can slightly spread apart the throttle below so that you can have access to the counternut.

After mounting the lever, screw the guide bolt again and tight it with the counternut.

Finally, plug the headlight again and fasten the headset cover, first with the clips and then with the three screws, fit the mirror – done!

Modern butyl inner tubes for Vespa and Lambretta

The new bgm inner tubes have been designed to meet the needs of classic scooters. In the last years there has been a great development in tuning measures and, as a result, an increased engine power. Modern disc brakes combined with bgm shock absorbers provide a high-performance scooter. As scooter riders we often gain from the developments of new motorcycle tyres which are then applied to the smaller tyres. Nevertheless for ages no innovations have been developed for tubes, but now we present you our new inner tubes:

inner tube for Lambretta, part no. BGM8700L and inner tube for Vespa, part. no. BGM8700V

Different valve position for Vespa and Lambretta

Our inner tubes are specially manufactured for the specific features of Vespa and Lambretta:

bgm-ventil-90-45-grad

We have a tube with a 90° valve stem for Vespa and other scooters, while for the Lambretta we have a tube with a 45° valve stem. These valves are differently positioned and vulcanised. The butyl quantity is higher than 50% and this guarantees an extremely high air tightness and realiability. Because of the high butyl quantity the production costs are higher, but the result is, in our opinion, a high-quality tube.

Inner tube for Vespa

Tube-BGM PRO- 3.00-10, 3.50-10, 90/90-10, 100/80-10, 100/90-10 – Valve position Vespa, part no. BGM8700V, 90° valve stem, fits Vespa and many other models.

Inner tube for Lambretta

Tube-BGM PRO- 3.00-10, 3.50-10, 90/90-10, 100/80-10, 100/90-10 – Valve position Lambretta, part no. BGM8700L, 45° valve stem. For your safety. The position of the valve stem prevents the rubbing of the valve against the rear suspension linkage pin and that, sooner or later, it comes off.

Always faithful to the details and to the classic style

And for the detail lovers we have not only ensured the safety of the right angle of the valve stem, but we have also provided a metal valve cap and a valve extractor, just like the genuine tubes for Lambretta.

High quality and perfect positioning

Inner tubes with a small quantity of butyl have, on the other hand, a higher quantity of rubber which makes them more flexible. As a result, they can be used for many more tyres with different sizes (up to 130/90-10). However, tubes containing more rubber are less airtight. We want to offer a high-quality item, therefore, in order to guarantee a perfect airtightness, we have decided to produce tubes with a higher butyl quantity for tyres up to 100/90-10. For your safety! Meanwhile there are many Vespa imitations but Vespa still represents an outstanding and unique icon the the world of scooters. This has an advantage: bgm inner tubes also fit many other scooters with 10 inch tubed tyres.

Useful information for a trouble-free mounting

When mounting the tyre, please apply the mounting paste on the tyre bead and slather talcum powder over the inside of the tyre. Mounting paste provides the right position of the tyre and talc reduces internal rubbing. This guarantees the safety and long life of your tyres.

Tyre mounting paste -ECON- 1 kg part no. 3330132
Reifenmontagepaste -ECON- 1 kg Artikelnr. 3330132

Mounting paste provides not only an easy fitting of the tyre on the wheel, but it also ensures the right positioning of the tyre. If fitted without mounting paste, the tyre may not be positioned properly on the wheel and, therefore, it loses its stability.

ECON mounting paste can be easily applied with a brush.

Resealable bucket, 1kg.

Talc powder -ECON- 500 gr sprinkler, part no. 3330131
Talkum -ECON- 500 g StreudoseArtikelnr. 3330131

Talcum powder is essential for a trouble-free mounting of tyres with inner tubes. If fitted without talcum, inner tubes might stick to the tyres. This may cause a damage in the area of the valve, since, due to the movement of the inner side of the tyre, the tube cannot move freely.

Clutch tool for Vespa

Our new clutch tool is a clutch extractor for Vespa Largeframe and a clutch compressor for Large- and Smallframe at the same time. This super small and handy tool in workshop quality should be part of every on board tool set and of every garage!

Quick, safe and gently loosening of tight clutches!

bgm clutch puller kupplungsabzieher (15)

A securing nut tightens the so-called 6 and 7 spring clutches of Vespa Largeframe-models.

This screw connection often is not strong enough for power transmission.
Causing the woodruff key to shear off and the clutch hub to distort on the crankshaft. “Screwed” on the taper in this manner, you won’t be able to loosen the entire clutch easily after loosening the securing nut of the crankshaft as you usually would. You should rather expect fierce resistance.

Hint: Do you want to continue to drive with a 6 or 7 coil spring clutch? Use our special nut with hex head to tighten the clutch. Using this is a lot easier and safer than an ordinary securing nut.

Clutch extractor for Vespa Largeframe

Our BGM PRO extractor also loosens very resistant clutches and makes dismantling easy. bgm clutch puller kupplungsabzieher (2)

You will no longer need heavy tools, large levers, which damage the sealing surface of the clutch cover. The same is true for working on or even destroying the entire clutch.

The extractor is made of high-strength steel. It engages with the clutch spider, grips tightly and pulls the clutch hub off the crankshaft.

The small tool may also be used as clutch compressor to exchange discs and springs of Largeframe- and Smallframe-clutches. bgm clutch puller kupplungsabzieher 002

Our recommendation for works on Vespa and Lambretta engines

Working precisely is essential for a good result when building up a new engine.
Inlet timing of rotary valve or piston ported engines as well as transfer and outlet timing of a cylinder are crucial factors in building an engine.

It all depends on the choice of components, but usually cylinders and/or engine casings have to be fine tuned in order to achieve the desired trigger delay angle in inlet and cylinder. Sometimes measuring with a calliper is not enough. Therefore we recommend to once assembling the engine without fitting it in the scooter. Because this will allow you to get the dimensions you need. And if you found out then, that the engine casing needs fine tuning, you would have to remove the ball bearing again. Which usually shortens the life span of the sensible bearing immensely.

NEW: Bearing dummies

Bearing dummies help you in this cause.

Lagerdummy (2)

Advantages of bearing dummies

The dummy will fit without the common need of heating the engine casing.
The dummies have, just like ball bearings, visible chamfers for easy assembly.

Lagerdummy_2 (4)

Once the dummies are fitted, you can still turn the crankshaft and you can even measure the gap dimension.

A useful tool to gain this important data is for instance the BGM timing disc in combination with the Whale. This set will help you to easily and precisely measure the trigger delay angle.

the-whale-tool-adjust-ignition

Once you collected all the data by using bearing dummies, you can easily remove the substitute ball bearings from the engine casing.

Lagerdummy (3)

The right size matters!

We have now developed bearing dummies by BGM PRO. MADE IN GERMANY

The bearings are available in all important sizes. The description of the dummies includes the dimensions of the corresponding ball bearing and the name of the bearing. Guide to read information on size (the bearing dummy for the ignition bearing of a Vespa PX and PK ETS will serve as example):

Bearing dummy crankshaft -BGM PRO- NBI 253815 (25x38x15mm)

  • NBI 253815 = name of the bearing given by the producer (Nadella, SKF, …)
  • 25 = inner diameter of the bearing in millimetre
  • 38 = external diameter of the bearing in millimetre
  • 15 = width of the bearing in millimetre

Lagerdummy_2 (2)

Available in all sizes:

Various combinations sorted by type of scooter:

You see, you will need different dummies for various combinations of engine and crankshaft.

  • Ignition side BGM1207TL; bearing dummy crankshaft -BGM PRO- conversion to PK ETS bearing (25x47x12mm)

Lambretta GP

  • Flywheel side BGM1204TL; bearing dummy crankshaft -BGM PRO- 6305 (62x25x17mm)
  • Ignition side BGM1206TL; bearing dummy crankshaft -BGM PRO- NU2205 (25x52x18mm)

Synthetic bearing dummy

This allows you to try the fit of the crankshaft in the engine casing without the need of force and the crankshaft can still be moved. You can therefore measure without wearing crankshaft or the new bearing out. Perfect, to check the trigger delay angle of the crankshaft (rotary valve inlet) or of the cylinder (outlet timing, transfer timing). Made in Germany

Bearing dummies by BGM PRO are available in the Scooter Center Scootershop:

Silentblock Vespa

Be honest – have you ever replaced the silentblocks of your Vespa? Even during a total make over this is the part, which is often neglected.

It might happen, that after many kilometres on the road, the sight of the most beautiful backside on earth is a little strange.

Take a look at the rear wheel from behind. If it is at a slight angle, the silentblocks in the engine casing will be past their best days.

Why silent rubbers?

Silent rubbers fulfil a difficult task: They are meant to eliminate unpleasant vibrations of the drive unit swing arm and, simultaneously, give a reliable and safe guide of the rear wheel. The silent rubber on the right additionally needs to bear the major part of the engine’s weight. Therefore, the right silent rubber bears more load and wears off quicker.

A new set of silent rubbers should deal with this issue. At least that’s what you might think…

Be careful with “OEM quality”

It seems that, let’s call them, “other” suppliers have by now found their way into the Piaggio bag.
Original silent rubbers are sometimes very soft, causing the engine to be at an angle to the frame, just by the means of it’s own weight. Loaded, which means with driver, it won’t get any better. Quicker Vespas with worn or too soft silentblocks sometimes tend to swing to and fro the longitudinal axis at higher speed.

Solution: load oriented silentblocks

We have therefore chosen a somewhat harder rubber for the BGM PRO silentblocks and decided for an even harder rubber for the strained side, which needs to bear the engine.

The harder, right side therefore counter acts the engine’s weight and is a safe guide for the drive unit swing arm.

The BGM PRO silent blocks for Vespa engines are marked with colours:

BGM7952(1)

  • GREEN marks the harder silent rubber for the right hand side (seen in direction of travel)
  • RED marks the silent block for the left hand side.

Silentblock Vespa

Easy assembly of silentblocks

When determining the shape of the silentblocks, we decided for a version with two parts.

This makes fitting the silent rubbers a lot easier.
Tyre mounting paste helps to fit the rubbers.
You should not use any grease.

We currently offer silentblocks for the following Vespa models:

Silent rubber shock mount Vespa

Hint: We also offer the silent rubber for the lower rear shock mount. This is the ideal add-on to the silent rubbers of the engine bolt. 1157103(2)

The wide rubber perfectly supports the shock absorbers and, compared to other narrow-chested alternatives, it resists wear a lot better.
The rubber and popular silentblock bushings are available in these sets:

Silentblocks Lambretta

Lovers of chain driven Lambrettas, can already turn to silentblock sets for a while.
During the development of silentblock sets for Vespa we have profited of the positive experiences of developing silent rubbers for Lambretta with varying degrees of hardness.

Vespa clutch cable or gear change cable broken?

Once a brake cable, gear change cable or clutch cable is broken you should also check all the other bowden cables and cable housings.

When restoring a scooter you usually need an entire cable set. It’s just, that one broken bowden cable is a hint that the other cables might also be worn.

We recommend: BGM bowden cables for Vespa and Lambretta

The BGM sets are perfectly adjusted to the vehicle and include all the cables and cable housings you will need in the right length. Gear change cable, clutch cable, brake cable etc. are part of the kit.

BGM PRO bowden cables are in line with factory specifications and impress with high quality at low prices. The length of the individual cables is adjusted to the vehicle, so that they can be fitted without further ado. Zugsatz BGM 017 Zugsatz BGM 012

Highest quality

BGM cable with high quality details such as

  • double crimped cable end sleeves
  • burr-free nipples
  • tinned end sleeves (laid cable).

Easy and quick assembly.

A layer of low friction PTFE at the inside of the housings of the front brake, gears, acceleration and clutch stands for easy and precise use.
You may oil or grease the inner cables and these will then operate extremly smoothly.

Better gear ratio with a short 4th gear

Kurzer vierter Gang Vespa PX

Why should your Vespa have a short 4th gear installed?

You install a short fourth gear to improve the gear ratio from third to fourth, which works perfectly fine with a short fourth gear with 36 teeth.
A short fourth gear makes sense for all Vespa PX engines, no matter if you are a daily, tour or race driver.
This drive wheel has 36 teeth, which is one more than the original fourth gear cog of a Vespa PX200.

BGM PRO – Premium Tuning Parts

The material used for BGM PRO gear boxes are extremely solid. The gear cogs are made from high alloyed Ni-Cr-Mo case hardened steel (20NiCrMo2-2/ AISI8620) to suit highest load levels.
The base material is of very high quality and suitable for highest levels of engine performance. Surface hardening is precisely defined to HRC 58-60 making the sprockets extremely wear resistant. Always high quality. No compromises.

BGM PRO short fourth gear
Advantages of a short fourth gear:

  • more relaxed driving
  • closer gear step
  • higher gear ratio and optimisation of the gear box

Gear wheel 4 -BGM PRO- Vespa PX EFL T5 125cc, PX200 EFL (short) – 36 teeth

Short fourth gear Vespa PX EFL Suitable for all gearboxes with flat cruciform. How to recognise these gearboxes? The driveshaft has a locking ring fitted in front of the gear cogs.

Gear wheel 4 -BGM PRO- Vespa PX (-1984), PX200 (short) – 36 teeth

Short fourth gear Vespa PX (-1984) Suitable for all gearboxes with bended cruciform. How to recognise these gearboxes? The driveshaft has a locking ring fitted in front of and behind the gear cogs.

The middle part lies on the cruciform. Measures:

  • PX old type (until 1984, bended cruciform): 5mm
  • EFL (since 1984, flat cruciform): 6,5mm

Middle parts of BGM gear cogs are larger (approx. 1/10mm) and therefore the contact surface for the cruciform is larger.

Scooter Center technology TIP:

A short fourth gear can be perfectly combined with the 64 teeth primary drive wheel by BGM Pro, which has a longer reduction. Using a 24 teeth clutch sprocket significantly increases the total gear ratio, but decreases the gear step from third to fourth, turning the entire engine performance into top speed.

BGM PRO short fourth gear
Advantages of a short fourth gear:

  • more relaxed driving
  • closer gear step
  • higher gear ratio and optimisation of the gear box

When working on a gearbox, don’t forget:

Especially interesting

So far, Malossi sports and Polini 221 engines, which are high in torque, have proven their quality in combination with a 24/64 gear ratio and a short fourth gear. BGM6536L

A short fourth gear reduces the gear step between third and fourth, in order to grant a sufficient torque and smooth gear ratio and nice acceleration when changing to fourth.

The table and graphs** below show the difference. Higher reduction leads to nice cruising speed in towns and on large roads at lower gears with very low revs. This combinations offers rather quick driving and a higher top speed with lower revs when driving in fourth. 24_64 graph
