In countless long and short distance races and test kilometres the 12mm wide hose clamps from ABA SAFE have proven their worth. The ABA Safe™ clamp uses the elasticity of the intake rubber and protects this relatively soft rubber hose from damage. The clamping force is increased at the profile beads, there are no sharp edges and the 12mm wide clamps fit tightly without stressing the carburettor connection rubber.

Tips:

  1. The carburettor and intake manifold should be thoroughly degreased before fitting.
  2. The 12mm ABA SAFE hose clamps should also not be overtightened.

1. The File Cleaning Brush

Stahl-Bürste zum Reinigen von Feilen.

Steel brush for cleaning files. You don’t have to buy a new file if it no longer has the expected effect, cleaning the file is often enough! This special brush from Lessmann is suitable for cleaning the strokes of metal files so that the cutting effect is fully available again. The file cleaning brush is particularly suitable for removing chips and strongly adhering metals such as copper, brass, bronze and aluminium.

2. The rust eraser brush

High quality rust eraser with steel bristles. The brush is ideal for the careful restoration of your vehicle with original paintwork on which parts of the sheet metal have rusted and which should not be sanded over the entire surface. Keyword: O-paint restoration. With the rust eraser, oxide particles can be removed effortlessly, even on surfaces that are already scarred. The bristles on both sides have different thicknesses for precise work. Afterwards, the area can be passivated with a suitable agent (e.g. multifilm). CONCLUSION: Great little tool with great effect and fun factor

3. The steel brush for the rough stuff

This quality steel brush is particularly suitable for removing coarse dirt such as rust. It is not suitable for use on surfaces made of plastic, aluminium, copper, etc.

4. The brass brush for spark plug cleaning

Messing-Bürste zum Reinigen von Masse- und Mittelelektroden von Zündkerzen.

Brass brush for cleaning earth and centre electrodes of spark plugs. Since brushes made of steel unnecessarily roughen the surface and thus new dirt adheres even better than before, a brush made of a softer material than steel should always be used for cleaning spark plugs.

The bgm PRO variomatic uses a shorter and Kevlar reinforced V-belt than usual for Quasar engines. This allows our Vario to run a much wider range of ratios without the V-belt being able to touch the housing, as is the case with a Malossi Vario. As a result, the bgm Vario can drive a much wider range of ratios without the engine having to turn higher. A huge advantage, especially when the engine needs further tuning.

Engine power directly at the rear wheel

The countless bench and road tests have shown that the 250/300cc Quasar engines do not require a harder or different back pressure spring than the standard one. This means that the entire engine power is not lost in frictional heat but ends up where it belongs: at the rear wheel.

Vespa GTS Variomatic Test

With the Piaggio series variomatic, the engine runs into the governor much earlier. The power is therefore maintained much longer when looking at the speed axis, which is noticeable in a higher final speed.

Compared to the Polini set, the bgm Vario does not work at an artificially increased speed level to get an aha effect. The Polini Vario unfortunately buys its (too) high speed level with a worse efficiency.

Maintaining the same acceleration speed as the standard engine results in our bgm Vario-Kit, so that the engine is not loaded higher and the power output is pleasantly linear. In everyday use the superiority of the bgm Vario-Kit is clearly demonstrated in a direct 1:1 comparison.

Made in Italy: PMT Tyres

The Italian tyre manufacturer PMT (Pauselli Modell Tyres) has been in existence since 1990, originally producing tyres for RC cars and the popular Italian minibike racing series. Since they have also developed tyres for motorcycles and especially racing tyres for scooters, they have very quickly achieved a top position among the favourite tyres of racing drivers. The PMT tyres are available in perfect compounds for the various soil, weather and temperature conditions.

Slick, mixture: hard

The slick with hard compound is ideal for tracks with high asphalt temperatures and heavy use due to many exchange bends and braking manoeuvres. The hard compound is the most abrasion resistant and can therefore be used very well in Endurance / long distance races. The warm-up phase for the optimum operating temperature (~ 80° C) is significantly longer with this compound than with the “medium” or “soft” compound.
The recommended air pressure for front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mixture: medium

The medium bridges the gap between the hard and persistent as well as the extremely well adhering but also quickly wearing soft mixture. The medium thus covers a very wide range of applications. Its optimum operating temperature is ~ 75°C and, like the hard compound, requires a longer running-in time than the soft compound to reach temperature.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, compound: soft

The soft PMT compound offers full grip even at lower temperatures. It wears out correspondingly quickly at higher temperatures and then no longer offers its full grip level. On the other hand, it reaches its optimum operating temperature of 70°C very quickly.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and between 1.4-1.9 bar for the rear.

Slick, rain

PMT offers with the Rain Slick a new interpretation of an intermediate. Based on the rubber compound of the pure rain tyre, an intermediate with slick tread pattern has been created. It is ideal for changeable weather conditions with the same proportion of wet and dry sections.
The recommended inflation pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Rain Racing

The rain tyre from PMT plays in the highest league of rain experts for the circuit.
Whoever mounted this tyre needs a good excuse if it didn’t work out with a good placement…
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Drag race

The Drag Race tyres from PMT are ideal for all quartermill engines.
Here no grip is lost and all power is transferred to the asphalt without slip.
This also means that there is no mercy for clutch or gearbox..

The key spiral – a classic newly discovered

I had one – everyone used to have one and it was ‘cool’, the key spiral! And this video makes my heart race:

We scooter riders, mods & scooterboys quickly discovered this practical spiral for us: because the different key types for ignition lock, steering lock and/or luggage compartment lock can be connected flexibly but safely.

With this super lanyard, all keys form a unit, but do not hinder each other during operation: ignition key and steering lock/luggage compartment key remain in their lock and are connected by the key spiral. So each of the two keys is quickly at hand and the flexible PVC material protects the paint.

We have the key spirals in 15cm-60cm (the 15cm version can be stretched to 60cm) and 30cm-100cm (the 30cm version can be stretched to 100cm) length. The coloured versions are translucent, i.e. they are coloured but still transparent.

  1. TIP : Also ideal to attach e.g. the house and car keys to the trousers!
  2. TIP : The tape can be deformed with a hair dryer at will, e.g. if the angled end should be straight.

Summer time is travel time – use a luggage rack now

Just in time for the summer holidays, the popular luggage racks from FA Italia are now available.

Folding luggage racks are simply hung at the top of the leg shield and fixed on the sides with the enclosed tensioning screws. This makes it easy to stow bulky luggage. Before the trip, the load is secured with the help of our tension straps and lashing straps – and the tour can start.

When not in use, the carrier can be removed in no time at all. But it’s better to leave it on, because you certainly don’t have to hide the great carriers!

Easy to use

Place your Vespa on the side stand. Then position the two-piece dolly directly under your scooter and fix it with the wing screw. Now take your scooter on the centre stand and block it on the dolly.

Once the Vespa is blocked on the dolly, you can quickly move your scooter in any direction and without any effort. Watch the video to see how it works.

The Vespa GTS scooter dolly by bgm PRO is made of robust galvanised steel, totally rigid even under full load. The four extremely easy scrolling polyamide castor wheels allow you to move your scooter with the minimal effort and to park it in totally safe position. The dolly has a load capacity of max. 200 kg since each roller can carry up to 50 kg.

Thanks to its sturdy design this scooter dolly can also be used to park your scooter for a long time (for instance in winter) or also in your store.

Easy and secure fastening of the former wheel

Fastening the former wheel is quite easy: you just need to push or ride your scooter into the cradle of the chock. The cradle folds forward with front wheel and clamps onto the tyre holding the motorcycle upright.

Our Vespa GTS 300 demonstrator and catalogue

For more than 25 years we have been working on the supply and development of spare parts for the vintage Vespa. However, we also look to the future and don’t ignore the recent evolutions of the modern Vespa.

We bought our GTS 300 in 2008 and this is one of the ‘models’ used for our first modern Vespa catalogue.

On Scooter Center’s 25th jubilee, in 2017, we took the opportunity to facelift our Vespa and give it a new, tougher look. Our aim was to combine modern design and standout craftsmanship to create a Vespa with discreet style and, at the same time, cutting-edge technology.

Scooter Center left nothing untouched on the Vespa GTS demonstrator. Some changes are extremely subtle. Stand-out features include the handcrafted dropbar, the modified front mudguard and the sports seat. Further fine features of this Vespa are the fork, shortened by 4 cm, the 13’’ wheels and the Brembo brake system.

WHEELS AND SUSPENSION

For our demo Vespa we chose the finest spare parts and accessories. The Brembo brake caliper kit P34 (2-piston caliper Ø 34 mm) improves braking when you ride with a pillion. Combining the caliper with the bgm PRO/SCR12 Competition shock absorbers, which are adjustable according to the needs of your riding style, and the wheel rim/tyre combination Heidenau K61 (140/60-13 on a wheel rim 3.5 x 13), you will get not only a facelift of your Vespa but also an improvement of its safety features.

BRAKES

The high-quality Brembo racing brake technology is now available with German TÜV-certification.
The brake kit mounted on our Vespa consists of a Brembo brake caliper with 4 pistons. The anodised black aluminium adapter was developed by Scooter Center and has a TÜV-certification.

If you want to appreciate the high performances of a top-quality brake system you do not need to test them on a racing vehicle. On standard scooters Brembo brake calipers also guarantee superb performance: high and well-modulated braking power.
Piston diameter 2 x 30 mm + 2 x 34 mm, two-piece, cast, CNC machined. High-tensile aluminium adapter, CNC machined, anodised black, TÜV-certification.

The stopping distance of a Vespa GTS with a Brembo brake calliper is up to 20% shorter compared to a Vespa with a standard caliper.

PERFORMANCE

In order to provide the GTS with an exclusive look, the exhaust body and the exhaust downpipe have a black ceramic coating. The downpipe and exhaust U-bend are spring-loaded. ONE-OFF PARTS OF THE SCOOTER CENTER VESPA DEMONSTRATOR

Drop bar / M-handlebar: the handlebar was manufactured by Scooter Center. The inclination was modified on both right and left side, the handlebar cover was made using more parts, adapted and painted.

Horn cover: Scooter Center’s own item handbuild by mixing parts of the Vespa GT and Primavera horn cover.

Mudguard: the design was adapted and recalls the classic design of the Vespa T5.

Fork: the length of fork was shortened by 4 cm in order to provide the GTS a sporty style.

New brake levers for Vespa – Installation guide Vespa GT / GTS

New for Vespa GT / GTS: BGM brake levers for all Vespa GT, GTL, GTS models with a HengTong brake system. This CNC machined lever in high-strength aluminium is adjustable in 6 positions.

The lever is provided with a span adjuster on the lower side which enables you to tailor the lever length in order to achieve the most comfortable position and a perfect grip.

The lever is made up of two parts and it folds up in the event of a fall reducing therefore the risk of breaking.

The foldable design of this lever is ideal if, for instance, you park your scooter in a small garage.

How to mount Vespa brake levers

Tools for mounting brake levers:

  • Allen key 2,5mm
  • combination wrench or box spanner SW10
  • slot screw driver, size 2-3
  • slot screw driver, size 5
  • Torx key TX25
  • two hands, right and left, ideally with only one thumb on each hand!
  • open-end wrench SW17 (may vary depending on the model of the mirror)

Preparation

In order to have an easier access to the brake master cylinder, it’s necessary to take off the front headset cover. If you also have a windscreen remove this first. Under the rubber grommet and the master cylinder cover you’ll find the counternuts for the tightening of the mirrors.

The screw of the master cylinder cover can be removed with an Allen key 2,5mm from the front side. After wiggling the cover loose forwards and upwards, the counternut of the mirror is easily accessible and can be taken off with an open-end wrench SW 17.

Then you can turn the mirror arm anticlockwise.

Both mirror arms have a right-hand thread. To tighten the mirror arm turn it clockwise, to loose the arm turn it anticlockwise. In the lower part of the headset cover there are three screws: on the right and left side the screws are accessible from the rear side,

while the third screw is accessible from the front side, under the headlight.

First unscrew all the three screws with a cross slot screwdriver PH2 and then release the retaining clips. These plastic clips are not visible from outside, but accessible from the inspection ports one the left and on right side. Remove carefully the clip with a slot screw driver.

Another plastic clip is placed under the headset cover, in the middle. You can loose it carefully with a thin slot screw driver.

The front headset cover can be removed easily if the front cover has already been taken off. The front cover is fixed with a torx screw (TX) hidden behind the Piaggio logo. On the right side of the logo there’s a small gap, pull out the logo from that side by using a thin slot screw driver.

Under the logo you’ll find the only screw of the front cover which can be loosed and removed with a TX25 torx key.

The front cover can be removed by wiggling it loose forwards and upwards. This way you can push the front headset cover upwards in order to loose the retaining clips of the front cover. When the front cover has been removed, you can wiggle the front headset cover forwards and upwards and finally take it off.

Unplug the electrical connections and the cover can be removed completely

How to replace Vespa brake levers

In order to take off the genuine brake levers, remove the counternut under the brake lever support with a combination wrench or box spanner SW10.

Then loose the guide bolt, to which the brake lever is fitted, with a wider slot screw driver (min. S5.5).

Pull out the bolt carefully and hold the brake lever.

For the mounting and positioning of the brake lever there are two washers. Please make sure you don’t lose them when you disassembly the levers.

You’ll need the two washers again when you fit the BGM PRO brake levers. For a trouble-free mounting and for an easy movement of the lever we’ll grease the two washers in order to enable the correct positioning of the lever.

For an easy mounting of the lever on the right side of the headset you can slightly spread apart the throttle below so that you can have access to the counternut.

After mounting the lever, screw the guide bolt again and tight it with the counternut.

Finally, plug the headlight again and fasten the headset cover, first with the clips and then with the three screws, fit the mirror – done!
