In 2015 we were able to unpack the first boxes and offer these popular restoration sets for the PX series.

Yes, there were rumors and somehow it was to be expected, but we were still very upset when we did
had to report the end of LML
not even 2 years later
: 2016. Since then there are only remnants of the parts, which are or were mostly a good one, often the only alternative for original Piaggio Vespa parts.

In 2019 Maryzabel has started to build Platonica based on an LML set and one of the last LML motor housings and LML fork for disc brakes. Sweetened with many great bgm PRO parts, such as the 187cc cylinder for being the heart of the whole project.

2020 - now is the time! It has come as it had to come: Also the stock of our LML frame sets for Vespa PX is now coming to an end. Just in time for the beginning of autumn we give you the chance to order the very last LML body kits.

LML - the last manufacturer of classic hand-operated scooters

We took sad news from the English online magazine Power off .

LML, the world's last manufacturer of classic hand-operated scooters, seems to be on the verge of a final end, but we hope the tide will turn.

Who does not know the history of LML "click" (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lohia_Machinery_Limited). In its history LML has built license productions of the popular Vespa models:

PK125 XL2 (LML Sensation https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LML_Sensation )
PX125 T5 (LML select https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LML_Select)
Cosa (LML Supremo https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LML_Supremo)
PX (LML Star https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LML_Star)

Mostly pretty close to the original, sometimes a bit more idiosyncratic, they were always popular inexpensive entry-level models that were particularly characterized by their economy. The Indian reality simply required other priorities and so longevity and economy were a clear selling point.

At peak times, 30.000 scooters rolled off the assembly line every month and LML was not only serving the Indian market with them. Classic PX models have always been very popular in Asia, Iran and various African countries. Egypt was one of LML's main sales markets, which unfortunately was their undoing: The depreciation of the Egyptian pound in 2016 made the scooters so expensive that this market collapsed. Unfortunately, no market was able to make up for this gap and so LML stumbled even more.

We first visited LML in 2014 and were able to see the production live at the Kanpur plant.

What we saw impressed us both deeply and at the same time, because to see a PX body made from a huge roll of sheet steel was an impression that gave us goose bumps. We were very impressed and it was just incredible to see the birth of a scooter live.

LML has potential

At that time it was clear to us, “LML has potential!”. Although the feel of some LML parts may not quite meet the requirements, they are of the highest quality in terms of quality. We installed the LML gearbox in 30 HP engines in the workshop without any problems.

The complete LML engines are unbeatable in terms of price-performance ratio and the painted ones LML frame sets a great starting point for a new build. The rest of the original parts are also very popular with us. Unfortunately, there is a lot of counterfeiting in India and low-quality replica parts are simply sold in counterfeit LML packaging. You should pay close attention to this and keep your hands off any dubious offers.

LML has not only produced Piaggio models under license, but has also carried out many further developments to which the original has to bow: LML motor housing XXl transfer ports. We discovered this motor housing by chance in the factory. To this day we have not really been able to clarify where they were installed.

On the one hand, they have HUGE transfer ports (why weld and mill them ?!) On the other hand, the cylinder base was smaller than on the Piaggio engines. (we offer the housing already spindled to Piaggio dimensions: LML motor housing XXl transfer ports )

Furthermore, the development of a 4-speed four-stroke engine in the LML PX dress should not go unmentioned because this is the only way to comply with the strict exhaust gas values and the gearshift has (had) a future.

As the grand finale, we were there when the production of the LML PK was rebuilt. The idea was actually a good one. One Smallframe with automatic motor and disc brake. She would certainly have had a future at least as a 50s in Germany. Fatally, it was only available as a 125cc and there was probably no mass market there. We had a fork (shortened Lusso fork) sent to us as a sample and saw great potential for V50, VBB and rally / sprint conversions, but unfortunately that never happened.

LML recently sought salvation in the production of a tricycle for the Indian market http://lml3wheelers.com/. Unfortunately, this project does not seem to have had the necessary success and it looks bleak at the moment.

We keep our fingers crossed for LML that there is still an investor who recognizes the potential. It would be a shame if such a great company with enthusiastic employees just disappeared.

LML has potential

At that time, we were convinced that “LML has potential! Although the haptic of some LML parts may not quite meet our expectations, they are of the highest quality. The LML gearboxes were installed in 30 HP motors in our workshop without any problems.

The complete LML motors are unbeatable in the price-performance ratio and the painted LML frame sets are a great starting point for a new construction. The rest of the original parts are also very popular with us. Unfortunately there is a lot of counterfeiting in India and inferior replica parts are simply sold in fake LML packaging. You should pay close attention to this and if you get a doubtful offer, you should keep your hands off.

LML has not only produced Piaggio models under license but also made many further developments to which the original must bow: LML motor housing XXl overflow valve. We discovered these motor housings by chance in the factory. Until today we couldn't really clarify where they were installed.

On the one hand they have HIGH OBJECTIONS (why weld and mill them?!) On the other hand the cylinder base was smaller than on the Piaggio engines. (we offer the housings already spindled to Piaggio size: LML engine housing XXl transfer tube)

Furthermore, the development of a 4-speed four-stroke engine in the LML PX dress must not remain unmentioned, because only in this way can the strict exhaust emission values be met and the gear shifting has (has) a future.

As the crowning glory we were there when the production of LML PK was rebuilt. The idea was actually a good one. A small frame with automatic motor and disc brake. It would have had a future for sure, at least eg as 50s in Germany. Fatally it was only available as 125cc and there was no mass market. We had a fork (shortened Lusso fork) sent to us as a sample and saw great potential for V50, VBB and Rally / Sprint conversions, but unfortunately this never happened.

LML recently sought salvation in the production of a tricycle for the Indian market http://lml3wheelers.com/. Unfortunately, this project doesn't seem to have brought the necessary success and things look bleak at the moment.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for LML, that an investor will be found who recognizes the potential. It would be a pity if such a great company with enthusiastic employees would simply disappear.

After LML stopped production for the 2-stroke engines, engine housings became rare and expensive. We can currently offer you the LML motor housing at a great price. A Piaggio case would cost about 3 times as much, if still available!

The LML motor housing are very popular, because you can drive the housing with all crankshafts of the PX80-125cc class. So you can achieve a displacement of up to 187cc on this housing without having to mill. All you need is one Long stroke shaft with 60mm stroke and a cylinder with 63mm bore, such as: ours: bgm PRO 187 cc cylinder

Compatible with all Vespa spare parts

All gear parts of the PX125 / PX150 / PX200 models from 1982 onwards fit.

Brand new engine housing manufactured by the former Piaggio subsidiary LML.

All models without separate lubrication (up to approx. 1984). The mold corresponds to that of the Ele starter models. Thus, the housing needs a Elestart fan wheel cover and a CDI holder for the electric starter models. To retrofit an electric starter, the housing can be retrofitted with stud bolts for the Elestartmotor (cut a thread, alternatively simply replace the existing hole in the fan duct with one that we also offer Sealing plate close).

The engine shells have not yet imprinted an engine number / prefix, ideal for conversion purposes.
The housing is not prepared for separate lubrication (no holes / millings for the oil pump drive).

The shaft seal for the drive shaft is on the outside.

Engine casing LML SE - fits Vespa PK125 big transfer ports

On offer: this engine casing for Vespa smallframe is very high in demand

We were lucky to coincidentally get hold of a few of these legendary LML SE engine casings.

Available in two versions: with e-start preparation and without e-start.

Much larger transfer ports by default

The LML SE engine casing is actually comparable to the engine casing of a Vespa PK125XL2. With only one difference: the transfer ports are much bigger than in the Piaggio engine casing.

Replacement or perfect base for tuning

Easily spotted: Both ducts at the sides offer plenty of space for further amendments, which makes it easier to fit strong racing cylinders.

We demonstrated this with a Parmakit SP09:

You can see that there is space for further amendments of the cylinder base: Parmakit-base gaskets on the LML SE - smallframe.

You will only have to invest a little time to perfectly fit such a cylinder to the transfer ports - unlike with a popular engine casing by Piaggio.

3-stud intake

The SE engine casing has 3 intake studs.

The sealing surface of the rotary valve with its 42mm length is rather large, which makes the engine casing an interesting option as rotary valve for performance oriented engine concepts.

Stable bearing seats - allow better crankshafts

You will find the bearing seat and the oil sump for the NBI needle bearing on the ignition side, as usual for PK XL 125. So you can directly use a stable PK-ETS crankshaft with 25mm bearing seat.

The engine casings were developed for the gear selector fork of an XL2 with “one cable system”.

Would you like to fit the casing in a Vespa with the usual 2-gear change cable system? You will need a conversion set.
Thanks to its precise machine production in small batches, shifting gears is more precise, which is the big advantage of this solution. The choice of high quality materials also prevents wear.

SMALLFRAME ENGINE CASING LML SE

SE125 engine casing by LML India. The engine casing of the Indian LML Sensation 125 is a 99% true copy of the casing in a Vespa PK125 XL2. New Piaggio engine casings made in Italy haven't been available for years. An engine casing by LML is therefore a very good alternative.
The casings are NOS products, sometimes rust film on metal parts.

PK125 XL2 / PK125 ETS

The engine casing can be used as a 1: 1 replacement for PK125 XL2 and PK125 ETS.
Delivered with an adapter to attach gear change cables.

New LML frame instead of only a new paint

Only giving a new paint to your scooter or rather buy already painted new sheet metal parts

Getting an old scooter freshly painted is rather expensive now. Many painters have already miscalculated the number of parts that need to be painted. There is the malice of the bent style of many frames and preparations often take many hours. This is why a fair paint at €500, if you are lucky, usually is a unique offer. Do you currently need to decide whether or not to freshly paint your scooter? Then this will be of interest to you: new, fully painted frame by LML.

Exceptional LML scooter parts

When we were offered exceptional LML parts, we remained skeptical. It was supposed to be a LML Star and NV 150. In individual parts, which were meant to be assembled in the country of its final destination.

We did some research and took a closer look at its part numbers. Which was exciting. We didn't only discover many small parts but also interesting connections. Some parts seemed to be painted in the same color. We started to get nervous - a very interesting story.

We found out that not only some of the sheet metal parts had been painted in the same color number, but entire sets! All painted parts you need to fully assemble a scooter were packed in an export box: COMPLETE SUCCESS

We agreed terms. Even though we had to take a deep breath first. So many small parts were included in the set. Some of which we will probably never sell.

The LML "NV150", also called "Select", and the "Star" have a good quality. The finish is a little rough sometimes, but they have been produced for the toughest conditions imaginable: the streets of India.

Why should you have your scooter freshly painted, when you can buy already painted sheet metal parts as a set with us?

Only new parts with new paint

There are NO VINs or prefixes. Please check with your responsible registration office whether it is possible to use the VIN of the damaged vehicle for the new frame. You lost the old sheet metal, but you still have the registration documents? Think about alternatives as discussed in various fora online (eg www.Germanscooterforum.de).

Limited availability

We bought a large amount of parts. However stocks are limited.

Quality

The quality of paint is usually OK but not perfect: small scratches or mini dents will be found on every set.

But the price is all the better: €999 for the Star and € 1,048.99 ex warehouse, Bergheim-Glessen for the Select. This should help in deciding between a new paint or a new frame.
