The steamhammer

The BGM BigBox Touring is the tour steamer on our program.
Developed for a solid push beginning at low rpm.

An early performance delivery and the significant increase in torsion make our Big Box's Touring version an ideal companion for anyone who likes to travel as a couple or with a lot of luggage. Sidecar bikers will appreciate this one as well. Due to the high torque available it is no longer necessary to shorten the gear reduction, which is otherwise necessary!

Vespa touring exhaust

On a standard PX200 the Touringbox already sets in 300rpm earlier than the standard exhaust, the previous king of all tour bikers. On powerhouses like the Polini or Malossi sports cylinders this exhaust is just fine as well.
Of course, the bigbox has a double-walled structure and is filled with damping material, just like the standard Vespa exhaust.

Vespa touring exhaust

The Big Box Touring

  • Default look
  • Quiet, thanks to double-walled structure and damping material as in the standard exhaust
  • high torque
  • No performance drop
  • Rev range like the standard exhaust
  • Very discreet
  • Also fits the Rally / Sprint without the need for modifications
  • Solid construction with clamp at the cylinder
  • Handmade in Europe

EASY ASSEMBLY

The exhaust is mounted like the standard exhaust. The header is attached to the cylinder with a clamp. This provides a maximum of stability and prevents damage to the outlet flange, in comparison to a loose assembly with an O-ring seal. The header features spring mount tabs. For maximum ground clearance, make sure to use a spacer that is long enough at the rear shock.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND

With a longer gear ratio the available rev range can be increased enormously at every gear. That way, the high torque can be turned into speed.
The ideal thing is to simply mount the BGM Superstrong clutch with a 24 tooth sprocket (23 teeth is standard). It works without the need of any further engine modifications and leads to an increase in speed by ~ 5km / h.

Engines with plenty of enough torque are also compatible with the bigger 64 tooth BGM primary sprocket combined with the 24 tooth clutch sprocket (+ 8km / h).

CONCLUSION
A lot of steam at low rpm - yeah!

BGM PRO Street Vespa gearbox oil SAE 30 API GL3

bgm Vespa gear oil SAE30

SAE 30 gearbox oil is the perfect lubricant for gearboxes of Vespa scooters with manual transmission (but also for many other scooter models). Swing arm Piaggio Maxi Engine Gilera Runner and Co.

Good news for performance fetishists and lovers of Piaggio automatic two-stroke engines.

For you, we further developed ours BGM PRO swing arm to reinforce the engine case, optimized it and have it produced in a new design:

Swing arm BGM PRO Superstrong Piaggio 125-180cc 2-stroke BGM7900N

BGM7900N (4)

The legendary BGM PRO swing arm

bgm pro swing arm

This idea originated during the construction phase of our shop demonstrator. A reasonable reinforcement of the engine case was particularly needed for the 50 hp strong twin.

usage notes

As for the previous version, some things have to be considered in order to link the swing arm to your engine while protecting the large, and now rare, Piaggo two-stroke engines:

  • fits Piaggio 125-180 engines with disc brake
  • exhaust support at engine case needs to be adapted
  • Exhaust systems need to be adapted for assembly
Order your swing arm here

Easy assembly

First, the engine case has to be adapted. The easiest way is to "adjust" the screw, which is screwed through the support from behind, with a gap of 5mm.

BGM7900N_2 BGM7900N_5 BGM7900N_4

For security reasons you should, as a trial, assemble and check, if it runs parallel to the surface at the Vario cover. Shortening by at least 5 mm is usually always necessary. Depending on the combination of assembly parts, the gap may vary and be up to 10mm wide.

BGM7900N_2

Fastening the rear wheel

The two-row self-aligning ball bearing can be fitted at a maximum angle of 5 °. The swing arm comes with longer screws to fit the rear wheel. The screws should be fitted with liquid screw locking.

BGM7900N

Security advice

The swing arm was produced for race use only.

There are many variations of hubs, rims and engine cases on the market.
Therefore we advise you to Thoroughly check if the parts fit before the assembly and finally to very thoroughly assemble the parts.

After the Lambretta bgm & MB Developments BIG BOX exhaust project was as far that we can't do anything more than waiting for the manufacturer and sending reminders every then and now, we thought to move on.

During the early 90ties we sold quite a few T5 and P 200 conversions that Mark did for us. Along the loads of Lambretta conversions. but back to the plot we thought a BIG BOX for the Vespa would be nice and have send some sets of shells to Doncaster. After the Eurolambretta Maks started to weld his ideas into the new BIG BOX. Monday morning it arrived and we started dyno'ing.

We tested on these engines so far:

Here is a selection of some dyno sheets. Uwe did a lot more and we will post some in the next few days!

Hope you like it!

For all who didn't know Tony O'Brien, we have attached the nice video. This shows him flying over the Nürburgring. The performance of his Charlie Edmonds tuned Falc engine is amazing.

Last week Tony tested the bgm PRO SC rear shock for the first time on Mallory Park race circuit. This is a national race circuit seeing the riders topping 150 km / h (95 mph) plus easily.

This is the feedback Tony has given bgm and us from his first races. Sadly Tony crashed during the race, but on the 24/25th of September the last race for the BSSO series will be held at Cadwell Park.

“The meeting didn't quite go to plan due to me deciding to test the hardness of the tarmac! (…) Practice was very wet… (…) The damper was set to 3mm pre-sag .. -5max compression and -5max rebound damping. My first impression is that this damper actually works and works very well.

The bike soaks up the bumps pretty well but I feel maybe I could have set the rebound a little harder to help stop the back end bounce on one particular corner. The engine runs a little hot with a little detonation and so I increase carburation to solve this.

By the time of the first race the track is dry. I am on last place on the grid (grid positions are based on previous meeting's results and I couldn't attend). By then end of the lap I am up to 5th from 19 starters, but there is a problem with the bike. (...)

The shock I have set to -3max on rebound and -4max compression .. its working fine and the bike feels transformed. By lap 1.5 I am into 4th behind the 250cc grp6 bikes of Topper, Turner and the 210 grp4 bike of Charely Edmonds. The corner which I had the issue on is now improved and the bike feels much safer and I actually manage to stay on the seat .. the corner is a 70mph left.

On the next lap however the motor cuts and then fires up again whilst banked over on a second gear corner .. This spits me off and into the dirt.

(...) The shock however even in two laps I feel is a massive improvement over the rs24. I feel yes for the track it could do with more damping as I think over the 10 lap race the oil will heat and it may lose damping. It would be nice to have the settings at mid-adjustment on compression and rebound. The spring does touch my tire (3.50 sava) but I can't move the shock over any more at present as the exhaust is in the way. I hope to move this over a little in the winter to solve this problem. the spring rate I would say is correct for me as it is.

During the day lots of racers were interested in the new shock. ”

THANKS TONY !!!!

Our good friend Taka Kitagawa has co-organized a scooter Rally in Japanese ISE SHIMA national park. The rally was held in a nice and familiar atmosphere.

The first date for the rally was canceled because of a Typhoon. Finally the rally took place last weekend. Despite the oncoming winter in Japan as well, our friends were indulged with mild temperatures and beautiful sunshine.

After the BIG RUMBLING Rally the Skooter Ride Out is the largest Rally in Japan. The feedback for the rally was second to none and much more entrants are expected for next year's rally.

This is the summary from Taka: "We are obtaining the feeling that SCOOTERING SCENE of Japan began to move. I have really moved deeply! Thank you SCOOTER CENTER!!! In the rias coast, SHIMA-CITY by which we did Rally is beautiful city. Nice Road, nice food and beautiful scenery! Scooter Scene of Japan received the off-season with our rally."

If you have a look at the pictures, you have to agree totally and we are sure, you can't wait until you head of for the next rally.

Thanks for the pictures to Nao Sumii!

Last weekend we were out for the Customshow in Ried / Austria.

After the 700 km trip it was a pleasure to meet Stoffi and his team. And not just because of the beer he offered.

The place where the show was held was really amazing. A proper tradeshow place that was packed with scooters even on Friday evening. To make life easier for us on the next day, we built up our stall.

The dinner brought the delicious Austrian food like Fritaten Soup, Wiener Schnitzel and so on. And for sure beer and wine, which we thought we have earned after this day. Sadly for some of us involved a deck of cards appeared ...
