BGM RELAUNCHES A CLASSIC

bgm has launched a new tire which is a throwback to the old days of scootering but using modern technology. Simply labeled the Classic, the tread pattern is similar to that of the Michelin ACS. For those that can't remember, the ACS was one of the best tread patterns ever designed for the scooter, not only giving good road-handling properties in the dry but also in wet conditions. For years it was standard issue equipment for both the Vespa and Lambretta. Even today, original examples of the ACS can fetch huge sums as owners want that retro look. Michelin destroyed the molds back in the late 1980s and so it was consigned to the history books. Thankfully BGM has brought it back to life with the company's new design. The Classic is speed-rated up to 150kmh / 93mph, which is very impressive. This is down to a strengthened carcass which not only improves stability at high speed but also when cornering. Cornering is aided even further by the V shape of the pro? Le compared with the U shape, which allows more surface contact as the lean angle is increased. Using a revised compound, they are super grippy in any conditions. Not only does this mean that owners with standard machines who want that classic tire look will bene? The bgm PRO Lambretta ignition was one of the first of our bgm products. Now the latest version 4.5 with silicone cable is available: bgm PRO ignition base plate

The first sample of the ignition base plates was presented on our stand at the Eurolambretta '07 in Neckarsulm. The base plate of our ignitions is based on the electronic ignition, which was introduced in 1970 with the Lambretta dl 200 electronic. Later this Innocenti ignition base plate was “adapted” by Piaggio for the Vespa. This type of ignition is probably the most widespread model.

In direct comparison, the bgm PRO ignition base plate gives an extremely stable ignition spark and maximum light output due to the optimized number of turns and wiring.

Tightening torques for bolts and nuts on the scooter

How tight should I tighten a bolt or nut on the scooter?

Here we have compiled a list of the recommended tightening torques of the manufacturers. *

Too tight!

It has probably happened to everyone at least once, KNOCK and the screw / bolt is off or the thread is broken.
No problem, if you have only destroyed a nut or a stud bolt, it can usually be easily replaced. It already starts to get annoying when you don't have a replacement available.
thread repair: It gets really annoying if you have destroyed a thread in the engine housing! This often becomes complex and usually expensive, especially if it cannot be repaired with a thread insert. Before the housing has to be replaced or welded, a thread repair with Weicon adhesive is often possible.

Too loose!

Apart from being too firm, there is of course also not firm enough! Nuts or screws that are too loose can be dangerous. You don't even want to think about what can happen if wheel nuts or brake discs come loose. Loose carburettors, intake manifolds or cylinders quickly cause engine damage. Depending on the area of ​​application, self-locking nuts or screw locking are the best choice!

In the right order!

In addition, the even tightening of screws and nuts must also be taken into account. Everyone knows this from changing tires, here they are tightened by eg crosses to guarantee an even fit. Also with engine housings and cylinder heads eg tensions caused by unevenly tightened studs should be avoided. There are even components for which a certain order of fastening must be considered. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions here.

Wrong way!

Right hand thread? Left hand thread? Normally nuts and screws are tightened clockwise (right-handed) and loosened counter-clockwise (left-handed) = normal right-hand thread. But there are also exceptions, such as the polar wheel nut Lambretta and left-hand mirrors: often with left-hand thread.

Solid!

For many applications there are special tools, pullers and especially holders, without which parts usually cannot be detached at all. You will find the tool for your scooter model after selecting the vehicle in the vehicle list:

The Italian tire manufacturer PMT (Pauselli Modell Tires) has been in existence since 1990, originally producing tires for RC cars and the popular Italian minibike racing series. Since they have also developed tires for motorcycles and especially racing tires for scooters, they have very quickly achieved a top position among the favorite tires of racing drivers. The PMT tires are available in perfect compounds for the various soil, weather and temperature conditions.

Slick, mixture: hard

The slick with hard compound is ideal for tracks with high asphalt temperatures and heavy use due to many exchange bends and braking maneuvers. The hard compound is the most abrasion resistant and can therefore be used very well in endurance / long distance races. The warm-up phase for the optimum operating temperature (~ 80 ° C) is significantly longer with this compound than with the “medium” or “soft” compound.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and for the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mixture: medium

The medium bridges the gap between the hard and persistent as well as the extremely well adhering but also quickly wearing soft mixture. The medium thus covers a very wide range of applications. Its optimum operating temperature is ~ 75 ° C and, like the hard compound, requires a longer running-in time than the soft compound to reach temperature.

The key spiral - a classic newly discovered

I had one - everyone used to have one and it was 'cool', the key spiral! And this video makes my heart race:

We scooter riders, mods & scooterboys quickly discovered this practical spiral for us: because the different key types for ignition lock, steering lock and / or luggage compartment lock can be connected flexibly but safely.

With this super lanyard, all keys form a unit, but do not hinder each other during operation: ignition key and steering lock / luggage compartment key remain in their lock and are connected by the key spiral. So each of the two keys is quickly at hand and the flexible PVC material protects the paint.

We have the key spirals in 15cm-60cm (the 15cm version can be stretched to 60cm) and 30cm-100cm (the 30cm version can be stretched to 100cm) length. The colored versions are translucent, ie they are colored but still transparent.

The UK market was the only market where the Lambretta sales hit the Vespa sales easily.

We have revised our crankshfts for Lambretta. We worked with the manufacturer for almost three years and we are very satisfied with the results. The testing lasted as long as the development work.

The new crankshafts for Lambretta are available with 58 mm and 60 mm stroke and 107 mm, 110 mm and 115 mm conrod:

Tested on the circuit

Darren Conneely of the Team Replay successfully tested the bgm PRO Competition crankshafts during the BSSO competition of the season 2018. Paul “Chalkie” White of the Team replay mounted on the Lambretta Group 4 the cylinder bgm RT 195 and the new crankshaft bgm PRO Competition. With a power of over 30 HP on the rear wheel and up to 11,000 rev / min that was a real endurance test.

And while we intensively tested these crankshafts on the road, Darren, with our crankshaft, took the second place in the Group 4. Congratulations!

15 years experience in crankshaft development

there is 15 years of experience with building our Lambretta cranks. The development of this new and massively improved type has taken another three years of development work and tests to realize a shaft that offers maximum anti-twisting stability.

Team Replay used a selection of bgm parts during the BSSO race Series in 2018. Replay's rider Darren Conneely finished the season in Group 4 on a 2nd overall using the new crank.
